Faded Time
"Call, another gin and tonic." Phrases that were all too familiar to him last night. That old rickety poker table all too tempting. The once fine leather now coarse and worn out. Not remembering or knowing who he was gambling with, a mere hooded figure. As he reflects back on that day it all seems so fuzzy, a distant memory submerged in a dreary abyss. Waking up thinking he had one of the best nights of his life, only to discover it was one of the worse. Wishing he could use his watch and go back in time to correct his mistakes.
No matter how hard he tries, it's not good enough anymore. One moment can instantly change your life. Although cliche you would be surprised how much it holds weight. Losing that watch was a catalyst that instantly changed his life and sent him spiraling down a path of insanity and regret. That gold watch was the key to opening new doors and fixing his past mistakes. That watch, smooth to the touch, the embodiment of success.
The watch now lost all because of one mistake. No matter how hard he tries to correct the past, the mistake looms over his head, leaving him filled with regret and sorrow. Apologizing to his master was pointless, the master may have said, “do not worry about it,” but it's all just a facade. A mere mask the master used, pretending to show sympathy, his true intentions, planning how to dispose of him. Perhaps that is why he is stuck in this predicament, the only person to blame is himself. Although always being told that all mistakes are forgivable, sadly he was proven wrong in the harshest of ways. Perhaps it was avoidable, sadly his temptation and him wanting to experiment and have pleasure with a sense of euphoria. Giving him that sense of euphoria and pleasure at the cost of impairing his senses and playing tricks on his mind. Easily getting deceived into gambling his watch with someone he doesn't even remember.
Minutes, Hours, Days, Months pass as he wallows in regret, questioning where it all went wrong. Was it truly his fault for wanting to experiment and try new things? He was used to just making a mistake and simply going back in time, constantly correcting his mistakes for the best possible outcome. Now he is an outcast in his own profession surrounded by mere illusions that pretend to be people. Sure they may still say hi or acknowledge his presence, but he can tell that it's all a mere facade, they now truly despise him, a grand illusion. As they do their best to constantly exclude you and conspire behind your back. As he walks to talk to his master because he has thought of a way to correct his mistake. A dagger pierces his heart, his master all too eager with a psychotic grin, he looks back and is just left with the question of where did it all go wrong? As he lays on the ground rapidly losing consciousness, in a shallow warm thick puddle of blood, he suddenly remembers that day. He remembers seeing who was under the hood for a brief moment, his own master with a twisted smile holding his gold watch.
