Healing water Tibesti
As phenomena of residual volcanism, geysers and hot mineral springs, used by the local population for medicinal purposes, are encountered on the plateau (especially often in the southeast).
Numerous periodically filled with water channels of the Sahara (wadi) rivers have their origin in this mountainous area, because the Tibesti highlands, in contrast to the surrounding desert, have a relatively high level of precipitation (about 150 mm).
Precipitation allows, especially in the rainy southwest of the plateau and in the areas of numerous small oases, to lead local people to extensive farming, cultivating millet and barley.
