Integration [2]

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Jon threw himself from the car into the study of his apartment despite the long ride.

He had an idea. A very ambitious idea with the potential of bringing the world to a state of utopia.

Thanks to the research he found on that forum, Jon realized how he could create a device that would transfer the emotions from one human to another. Imagine the consequences! He would use the binary-cognitive translations to electronically introduce emotions to a human brain.

On the other side of the spiel, he could read the electrical signals from the brain and translate them to binary. All he would have to do then is send the information from one node to the other through microwaves, bluetooth, or some other wireless protocol. Doesn’t really matter!

Jon had an answer. Finally a valid outlet for his motivation.

And so he tucked himself away in the obscurity of his office to tinker away at his newfound vision.

Two months of uninterrupted work later, Jon looked even more stressed and tired.

But he finished the working version of a vital part of his project. He created a device that read the current emotion of his hamster and displayed it on an LCD screen.

For the first test, he placed a little wired helmet on the hamster.
Jon hit a switch, and with the charged noises of the equipment came a stream of basic emotions.

Hunger
Hunger
Hunger

The hamster needed food. After Jon fed it, the messages displayed.

Thirsty
Thirsty
Thirsty

So he satiated that desire.

Sad
Sad
Sad

Jon was happy that the device worked. But that his hamster was not content distressed him.
What if humans are sad? Wouldn’t our sadness overwhelm us if we all came together?

Doubts began to infiltrate his mind. The moral implications surely didn’t make it any easier...
