Grimm Residence - Prologue
At first, the mere thought of being a suspect was absurd, It drove that sickly twisted feeling into the stomach and the torture had begun. No matter what had been said, the fingers of guilt pointed, and do to the circumstances, those fingers never swayed another direction.
The jury had decided, and the judge gave sentencing.
By the time James Baker entered prison, he was a hollow life-less man. His entire life was taken within a blink of an eye and he was not only the one to blame for the destruction, but also the one to be punished for it.
His sunken eyes told the story as he walked down the isle leading towards his new home. Long time inmates called out to him, beckoning for a reaction, something James never gave, he was too defeated. He just continued his walk through the insults and threats, blank stare and all.
When he finally made it to his cell and the door had closed behind him, he simply sat at the edge of his bed until the lights were turned out for the night. Then in near darkness, he slowly stood up, tied one end of bedsheet to the overhead lamp and then stood on his bed, tied the other end around his neck and jumped without hesitation.
In an attempt to commit suicide, he tried hanging himself but the lamp had ripped off from the ceiling with a loud crash while smashing into his head. When the guards came to his cell, they found James unconscious and suffocating from the tightened sheet around his neck.
He spent the next week in the infirmary.
When James finally returned to his cell he knew he was a different man, something had happened and he could feel it inside, something desperately trying to escape.
And he had a new cellmate…
