Adela the blue jay obeyed her husband the hemlock and turned her flight before she reached Vestas and the sleeping Carol riding upon his back and turned her flight back up toward her spot high in the branches of her husband, “I can’t watch.” She said.

Vestas touched the trunk of Mr. Cawra, expecting something to happen and nothing seemed to happen. He tried to turn his body so Carol, now a Kror would touch the tree trunk and he succeeded. The rush of the lions, wolves, and bears as they crashed through the underbrush of the forest to attack Vestas and Carol, or he was told they would attack by the Cawra’s, grew louder and he could hear the trio of beasts roar or growl with rage as they ran closer toward him. “Nothing is happening like I hoped it would.” Vestas said to himself. “I have to think of Carol, so I must leave even though I know that if I do we might stay like this forever.”

“Better start moving off to your left very quickly, at least out of my sight.” Mr. Cawra said. “I do not want to see you two torn to pieces.”

“Until you tell me how to remove this curse, you will just have to close your eyes Mr. Cawra and not watch.”

“I had nothing to do with what happened to you nor did my wife and you had better stop talking and either hide or…it might be too late for you as it is.” Mr. Cawra scolded, “Don’t blame us.”

“Talk or I will chop you down!” Vestas yelled.

“I will close my eyes instead. Good day!” Mr. Cawra stated with a harrumph.

“Good riddance!” Vestas heard Adela from inside the tree branches up high.

Vestas bit Mr. Cawra’s trunk. He tried to rip off the bark with his teeth but it was so thick that even though he had fangs, like many reptiles…and then he felt his teeth change and he let go of the bark with his, he was sure of it, human teeth.

He saw his hands and legs and Carol as a Kror lay heavy on his back. He pulled her off of him sleeping and sunk her teeth into the trunk. Within seconds, she was good ole human Carol again.

“You can open your eyes now Mr. Cawra!” Vestas said as Carol woke, now able to withstand the thinner atmosphere up near the summit of the mountain because she was human again.

“Oh, we are humans again, Vestas!”

“And I think we need to flee, Now Carol! Take my hand!” As the lions, wolves, and bears came within steps, Vestas grabbed Carol’s hand and poof! He moved to the valley floor.

“We heard a Groot up here!” The chiefs of the lions, wolves, and bears roared angrily at Mr. Cawra.

Adela poked her head out of the upper branches of the hemlock that was her husband and said, “The Groot ran off that way down the mountain path carrying a Kror.” Adela pointed with her wing.

“Yes, they went that way!” Mr. Cawra agreed with Adela.

“After them!” The lions, wolves, and bears charged in the direction of the mountain path to try to catch the Groot. Once they were out of sight and out of earshot, Adela whispered to Mr. Cawra,

“That is the first time anyone figured it out.”

“I hope they don’t come back and I hope they don’t tell the rest or I’ll be bitten a lot.” Mr. Cawra whispered back.

“I think you were right dear, I think I talked too much.”

“We both did. From now on, drink the water and don’t say anything, just fly back.”

“Yes dear, what will we do if they do talk to the other Krors and Groots?” Adela asked.

“Keep silent, maybe they won’t remember which tree we are and you stay out of sight.”

“Good ideas, most of them have been changed longer than I can remember, keep watch and trust to luck!” Adela agreed.

“See, the animals just turned around, they think we made it down the mountain, and now they are walking back up.” Vestas observed to Carol.

“So how did you figure it out?” She asked and Vestas told her,

“…as soon as they are gone, let’s go back up there and we will get on with your lessons.”

“Are you sure you want to be anywhere near there, what if something else happens?” Carol asked.

“In this place something always happens no matter what you do to try to avoid it and that was a nice, treed forest, shady and we are protected from the Krors and the Groots.”

“Perhaps we should tell them.” Carol said.

“Maybe we should but you need some more lessons like how to drag me away like I just dragged you. It is very important.”

“Yes dear.”

“Did you see them anywhere?” One Kror sitting on top of its Groot said to another Kror looking at footprints on the ground.

“No, there are these footprints and then they just stop like they flew or something Gladys.” The other Kror said.

“Kara, try to do a good deed and warn other couples,” Gladys, the Kror mumbled.

“Guess they will be joining us soon enough anyways, so what does it matter?” Kara asked.

“I heard that if you do good deeds we will ascend out of this place.” Gladys mumbled again.

“Yes, come to think of it, that is a very good reason to find people and warn them.” Kara replied. “I hate flying dragons.”

“Oh no, not another fire breathing dragon,” Gladys’s Groot said.
