Story Time - Goldilocks and the Squatters Rights

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Have you ever thought back on the stories you read as a child and realized they weren’t, as they seemed? For instance, let’s take a look at Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Something always seemed off to me when thinking of this go to book for the kids. Then I put some thought to it that this book gives kids the go-ahead to commit heinous acts with a fairly passive belief.

This story begins with an adorable girl in the woods and her passion for adventure. Where are her parents? How long has she been in the woods? How has she survived so long without food, gear or shelter? I’m sure her parents must have been concerned and put out an Amber alert.

It wasn’t long after I would get answers to the questions above. She proceeds from the woods to what she’d seen as a squatter’s paradise and committed a breaking and entering, which only carries a sentence of up to 10 years in jail. As if that wasn’t enough she saw food on the table and figured why not. So she goes around the table sticking her dirty fingers into each bowl complaining about either how hot or how cold the food is until getting one that didn’t burn her tongue. She was instantly hit with the itis (food coma) after eating a bowl of porridge and decided had the need to find a place to kick back. It was at this point she let her inner rock star come out and broke one of the chairs to pieces and decided to find a bed to rest in as she hadn’t been able to rest her feet in days.

My thoughts were, damn Goldi, what about the bears? What about their insurance premiums and needs to get a better security system so they can continue to feel safe in what was once a tight-knit community. In my professional opinion, she’d done this before as she felt too comfortable and was entirely knowledgeable in what she was going. Even still why didn’t she just eat the porridge and go? I guess she was in it for the rush, the feeling of never coming down.

What if the bears lived in Florida would the Bears have used their right to stand their ground or just file a police report and suffer increased insurance premiums.

You realize that the social, economic, cultural, and political context of medieval and early modern Europe was really different to contemporary America, right? So that the things that you have really strong feelings about are not the same things that people in, say, Central Europe in the 1500s might have really strong feelings about.

Thanks for the history lesson but I am well versed in both history and culture. Maybe I'll help you out in the fact that you'd taken the time out for my story of fiction about a story of fiction. All of the best in your future postings.

Wait, so the purpose of your post was to say fictional things about a fictional thing? I guess I misread your intentions; it looked like you were expressing confusion about the Goldilocks story because the main character was doing things that are unusual and in some cases illegal today.

If you're looking for someone to join in on another wasted moment of what some may say resembles a petty existence you've come to the wrong place. All of the best and have a great weekend.
