SHORT STORY: THE GOLD NECKLACE

Three robbers attacked a jewelry shop by the road side. They had come on different occasions to survey the shop. A day before the raid, old Stephen couldn’t make it to work due to stress and asked his grandson to cover for me, he was the store security guard. Joe just got back from Afghanistan war and was hungry for more action. He had his pistols on him when he resumed.

The robbers came in like customers and picked a point to monitor movements. In less than a minute, they started operation. They first shot in the air and asked everyone to lie than flat. Before the receptionist pressed the panic button, one of them stopped her and almost slapped life out of her cheeks. She fell flat on the ground, unconscious!

Joe was in the toilet when they came in. As soon as he heard the gun shots, he brought his pistols from the hostlers and was ready for action. The robbers were packing the jewelries when he sneaked into the shop, he watched them closely to know their exact number before springing into action – he had two guns for three guys. Without wasting further time, he shot one in the leg and before the rest could move, he shot the second one in the hand and the bag of Jewelries fell leaving them scattered all over.

The third robber quickly grabbed one of the Gold necklaces and ran out the door, Joe was fast and shot him in his stomach but he was too open. The robber he shot in the leg shot him, he quickly jumped to the other side of the room to check for the damage. The bullet missed his stomach but scratched it real bad. He held on to one of his pistols and used the other hand to tear off his cloth to press on the stomach to reduce blood loss. He managed to come out and saw the two robbers struggling to get up and leave.

”Drop your weapons, if you make any funny move, I will blow your heads off.” He ordered sternly. His face had become as hard as a rock.

Meanwhile, the third robber was bleeding profusely and cut his way to the alley. He tried all he could but couldn’t make it. As he slumped, the necklace rolled from his hand to a nearby box. A homeless man named Daniel watched closely. He quickly stood up to examine and discovered he was dead. His eyes popped out at the sight of the necklace, many thoughts rushed through his mind all at once. He grabbed the necklace and ran as he heard the siren of Police cars.

He was about 6 blocks away when his conscience got hold of him, he felt guilty and knew returning it was the right thing to do. He took back the necklace to the shop. The police officers almost handcuffed him but Joe and others testified that he was not among and he showed them the carton he had been sleeping for years. The owner of the shop was pleased with him. After the whole issue died down, Daniel was rewarded with money by the owner and he made the news. His story changed because of one right decision he made.
