Life and creativity of Honore de Balzac / part 3/
According to his own desire, Balzac is already a thriving writer after his thirties. His dreams of joining the aristocratic society and of universal recognition are so insistent that they urge him to attend diligently the secular lounges and to wish for the mistress of Marquis de Castries. His new reputation as a connoisseur of the female soul brought to him in 1832 the first letter of the unknown worshiper, which was signed with the enigmatic nickname "Foreigner". Later it turns out that this is Polish Countess Eva Hanska, married and living in Ukraine. This is the beginning of a romantic love whose fervor does not quench until the death of the female conqueror of the female hearts.
After his first success in literature, Balzac lived in luxury, dressed in fashion, although he was too full to fit in the narrow fashion frames, he wasted considerable sums without considering that they were his advance fees for the novels he has to write. Then he starts writing them, sometimes having to spend eighteen hours on the desk. He tries to race over time to embody his illusion that he can live as a true aristocrat. Balzac proved to be an extremely disciplined worker in the field of literature. He wrote in the nights, drank huge amounts of coffee. Thus, in 1832, the feverish chronicler of the age of radical change was on the verge of psychic disorder. His largely autobiographical work "Louis Lambert" is reproduced by the deep dramatic crisis that the ambitious writer passes through. Louis is an easily wounded intellectual, often subdued to exaltations, with refined soul and fragile psyche, who is a victim of deep mental disorder. The novels follow one after another, the writer sometimes manages to release three novels in one year. They build the myth of Balzac 's comprehensive analyst of public morals, and recreate his original views of the "transition epoch" in which he lives. After Louis Lambert, in 1833, the novel "The Doctor of Medicine" appeared. The two novels develop a related theme: the pursuit of organization as a way of disabling the destructive forces of desire; collective action as a way for man's passions to be overcome by introducing order in society.
According to Balzac , the Great Revolution has not abolished injustices and equalized inequalities; on the contrary, it has deepened them. She has driven many people off the edge of society, turned them into a marginal people or outcasts. The writer pays special attention to the typical "heroes of the time" - the evil-doers committed to misery crimes, young people with ambitions, but without a future, women turned into lawless slaves by Napoleon's law, entrepreneurs and daughters of the guts who plunder all moral scruples, bankers and money-lenders, whose only passion for insanity is the accumulation of capital. The epoch, in which civil society is emerging and strengthened, turns out to be extremely harsh. She condemns ups and downs, serene hopes and heavy sufferings both men and women. Liberalism is a lie that encourages the growth of selfish ambitions and the development of interests. Strikingly romantic is the tendency in Balzac to maintain the thesis that tortures and suffering build up a conscientious conscience and give birth to the nobility in the mind of the individual. An echo of this propensity is his novel, "The search for the absolute", which tracks the creative pursuits of an ingenious madman plunged into the jungle of the "real" world.
