Welcome to the Steemit Story Chain

Hello to all you fellow Steemers and Steemians out there, I hope you are doing well. It's another Monday so that means another Steemit Story Chain is about to launch. I am asking you all to consider stretching your creative muscle and get writing a part of a story I will start. There are 100 Whaleshares on offer for the person who produces the most original and creative part of the story chain.

I want to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to the last story, which started off slow with two entries and then developed with more coming in later. So thank you to @dreamingirwin, @yardley-elbert, @krazykrista, @zues, @poeticsnake and @outerground, you all wrote some very creative parts of the story. It was a tough choice and with some disagreement about the winner to begin with, but eventually a winner was decided.

@dreamingirwin

You offered a polished introduction setting up a nice twist - the doorbell being rung by a little girl - which offered the rest of the writers a rich seam of possibilities. The part written by @krazykrista had a sort of mad logic. She attempted a narrator - something quite difficult to do in one paragraph - and it felt like it worked. Part four written by @zeus also had a madness, this time in the form of an unstable protagonist in a confused world.

The winner, @dreamingirwin, has won 100 Whaleshares. Please reply with your Bitshares account information and I will send the Whaleshares to your account immediately. Enjoy! If you don't have an account don't worry it's very simple and completely free to set one up here - https://bitshares.openledger.info/?r=akrid-1.

A reminder of the winning entry is featured below.

I stood there staring at my phone. Unable to respond. I simply stared, my mind exploding in thought. Who was this? Who do they think they are, just demanding I let them in. Of course something like this would happen. Stupid me. Then I looked at the shovel, they obviously want to test my humanity. 'Well, are you going to let me in ?' I was so lost in thought, I almost forgot the cause of it all. " Whatever, hold on a minute. I be there in a sec.", I responded. "You suck!", I said to myself after I ended the call.

Placing the shovel near the back stairs, I entered the house. As I went through the hallway into my kitchen I saw my old dusty baseball bat leaning against the wall in the open closet. I grabbed it just in case. I leaned the bat against the sink, as I washed the dirt from my hands and face. As I walked into the living room, I spotted a clean t-shirt on the sofa. Quickly I changed shirts and tossed the dirty one down into the basement. Walking to the door I inhaled deeply, in hopes of regaining my peace.

I've always hated the design of my front doorway. The windows are to far from the front door to see who's at the door. "Oh well, here we go. ", I thought out loud slowly opening the door. Again my mind went blank. Standing in front of me was a dainty figure, standing barely four feet tall. Long straightened white hair, being blown around by the wind. She turned around and looked at be with pleasant smile.

Then with raspy voice she calmly said, "Well are you going to let me in?"

Moving on now to this week's Steemit Story Chain which is called Who Will Forgive Me Now? If you would like to enter the contest you need to first upvote and resteem this post. I have written the first part of the story below and then, using the comment box, you guys have to develop the story in whatever way you want. Be creative and original. You can change the genre from one part to the next if you wish, it is entirely up to you. A short paragraph or two is all we are after. And remember to number which part of the story you are writing.

The inimitable @nikflossus will be helping me decide which one of your contributions is worthy of the winning prize. We are looking for:

  • A strong sense of imagination
  • Creative intelligence
  • Originality
  • Narrative fluidity (ensuring the story chain links smoothly)
  • Use of language, grammar and syntax (we need to understand what you're saying!)

The winner will be announced in a week's time. A new post will be published then announcing the winner along with a new story chain.

Now without any further hesitation here is part one of Who Will Forgive Me Now?

It's still taking time to sink in. Nothing seems real at the moment. There was nothing else I could do. Every option exhausted. I had to make my decision and leave my family behind in that town. That was not my life, it was someone else's. I leave behind two daughters and a son. I also leave behind a good husband and a decent father. How could she walk out on her own family, they'll say? When you have done all you can and there is nothing more you can do, you either choose life or you choose the only other option available. And that option is not for me. I need a chance while there is still time. For now this room in this old lady's house is a chance. She'll want to know eventually. I will probably tell her everything, when I'm ready. But first I have a new life to begin.

Part 2
Living in Minnie’s house has been strangely good for me. I thought I would leave as soon as my injuries healed. I wonder what she really thought when she found my unconscious body at her dumpster three weeks ago. I must have looked dead, with blood matted in my hair and spattered all over my clothes. But she helped me without question. It must have taken all of her strength to drag me inside the house, but she did.
“How did you know to burn everything?” Minnie has just finished redressing my head wound. “Someone else would just throw away everything instead.”
Minnie just stares at me and purses her lips, as if in thought. Shaking her head, she said, “I didn’t burn everything.” She turns towards the armoire and takes something from it.
As she turns towards me, holding the object in her hand, I froze and my mind blanks. No!

part 3
She held out a rag doll. To any normal person it would have passed as a crudely made toy, fashioned from patches of old remnant fabric. But I knew what it really was.
The doll's legs were made from some rough cuts of denim which looked familiar - my own jeans. The arms and body were of white cotton - the blouse I'd been wearing. The head was a mess, a mass of glue mixed with a spiky tangle of short snips of hair matching exactly the shade of my own.
Instinctively I took a step forward and reached out for the doll. It felt like a violation, like it was mine.
'Careful dearie, you know what it is,' said the old woman. It wasn't a question. She knew that I knew.
'Please give it to me,' I said quietly.
'It's not often I meet someone with your powers. In fact it's very rare. And there you were on the floor, waiting for me. All bruised and battered but still breathing. And totally helpless.' She smiled. 'I had weeks to bind you. You're perfect. It's almost like fate sent you.'
'What do you want?' I asked, my voice barely above a whisper
'I've a little job for you dearie. Nothing to difficult. Just a few simple spells, some scrying, and then some malice.
'That's black. I don't do black. I never have.'
'White, grey, black it doesn't mean anything to me dearie. You'll do the magick I ask or you'll suffer.
'And if I don't?'
She reached into her cardigan pocket and pulled out a long needle which she held up. It looked wickedly sharp. Then she jabbed it hard into the leg of the doll. I screamed and fell fell to the floor.
'You'll do the magick dearie. Now go and sit down. I'll make us both a nice cup of tea.'

Part 4

Minnie turned and walked towards the tea pot that was beginning to hiss and whistle. It's lid rattling, seeming to reflect the agitation that was now brewing in me. I could feel my body temperature starting to rise. Yet it was unclear to me if it was a result of the growing annoyance I felt, or from her holding the rag doll so close to the teapot. Why someone would assume that having position of that stupid doll, grants them control over me. I will never understand.

She thinks she knows what she is holding in her hands, yet she obviously has no clue. She must have thought that my asking if she had burned it, was for my own out of concern for myself. My mind flashed back to the countless others that have held that doll in the past. They always State their demands, never once realizing the price they're going to pay. Just for having touched that stupid doll.

Just and the doorbell rang. Minnie turned around in bewilderment. The teapot in one hand and the Doll in the other. She was obviously not expecting company. She placed the teapot back on the stove and walk towards the door with the doll still in hand. "Who is it? ", I heard her say. The response was muffled and I could not make out what was said. Though I could hear the sounds of the door being unlocked, followed by the sudden sound of the door being kicked open. I jumped to my feet. "What the hell are you doing? ", screamed Minnie. I headed towards the walkway, as the sound of a gun shot stopped me dead in my tracks. I was instantly thrown to floor. My hand grasping my arm, which was now throbbing in pain. Blood was now beginning to seep through the sleeve of my shirt, yet there was no physical damage to the sweater itself.

I dragged myself to the entry of the walkway, and peeked around the corner. There were two men standing over Minnie's lifeless body yelling at other. The one holding the shot gun, was standing inches away from where the doll had landed.

Dude, can you check your messages on Discord. I need your Bitshares account information so I can transfer your 100 Whaleshares.
