A Perfect Encapsulation of Philip K Dick's Insanity
Most people know PKD as the sci-fi author behind such Hollywood classics as Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, etc. Fewer people know that he was an absolute lunatic. As a somewhat obsessive PKD fan, I took the time to read through several volumes of his personal letters. He wrote letters almost every day and, luckily for us, made carbon copies of all of them. In reading his letters, you'll quickly discover that they are full of contradictions, omissions, lies, and paranoia. To read the letters is to read a novel with an unreliable narrator. One of my favorite examples is from October 1972... A one-two punch in which PKD writes to the FBI accusing a peer of being a communist conspirator, then subsequently writes to that same writer, Thomas Disch, to verbally fellate him by lauding his novel Camp Concentration as the greatest book of all time. You can't make this stuff up.
