The only way to talk Squint out of leaving the Heaven Computer System was to let him have his revenge on the Shadow Government.  Now that the AI's had rediscovered time-travel it was finally possible to go back.

Chapter 29 – Only One Sure Way 

  It seemed like it was taking forever waiting for the right timing.  The AI’s had scanned all known records from the past and discovered that a US-Allied nation had helped the USA create a working secret space program just before the terrible horrors were brought down to Earth by the Shadow Government.  The connection was a rock-solid lead to the source behind the break-away, and we had to investigate it. 

  Unfortunately, the only window of opportunity to find out what they were really up to was slim at best.  There was a meeting that was held irregularly, a gathering of very powerful and important people from around the world.  And at one point in time, they had a weakness that we could exploit. 

  It was my job to dolphin punch myself, possessing my own brain in the past from here in the future, and shake up the Shadow Government’s minions so that the computers could retrace their paths.  The theory was that if I could alter the time-line by just the right margin, then the computers would be able to compare and analyze the differences between the parallel universe and the original.  Once a parallel time-line was established it should (in theory) cause certain kinds of discrepancies to stick out like a sore thumb.  Then it should be relatively easy to sort everything out. 

  We needed to know things, the future and I.  But instead of just interrogating someone, I was going to make them all reveal themselves, like scattering billiard balls across a pool table when the first move breaks their initial pattern. 

  With constant updates and live support from the future’s quantum computers and AI’s, I might just be able to pull it off.  And if not, well, now we had time travel; we had all the time in the world to go back and do it over again. 

  The ‘mission’ was to last three days.  I would travel around the American Mid-West in an apparently aimless and meandering path, by taking buses, taxis, planes, and any other mode of transportation I could find.  They wanted me to look like I was homeless, or in trouble.  The plan was to get me into specific places across the country at certain times during that three day time-frame, and get certain peoples attention in specific ways.  The theory was that if I could do it just right then it would cause a chain reaction of events to snowball into a parallel time-line.  This was going to happen shortly after I would received a large tax return in the past, and I would use that to fund my trip. 

  The AI’s had worked out all the math.  Every possibility, every potential twist, they could see it all, they were brilliant.  The only thing they didn’t have was feet on the ground in the past, and that’s where I came in.  I was the perfect dolphin to punch.  It was my native era.  I fit in.  And naturally, I jumped at the opportunity.
