The suspicious whatsapp message - fiction
Nicole has been sitting in the bathroom for over an hour - tears streaming down her face. She just could not look away from her husband's phone she was holding in her hand and reading the message over and over.
We must meet, things must now come to a point. Meet me tomorrow. Cannot wait to see you again. Chandre.
Her husband has been acting weird for the past few days, coming home late, falling into bed without saying a lot. Avoiding questions from her and changing the subject as it suits him.
Nicole has always believed that they had a happy marriage - they have been married for almost 10 years and she has never gotten the feeling that Derrick will ever lie to her, let alone cheat on her.
How could he do something like this? It is our anniversary tomorrow and where is he tonight...in the arms of another women?
Nicole heard the key turn in the lock and quickly washed her face and got into bed before Derrick could see that she had been crying.
Honey have you seen my cellphone? I forgot it here this morning when I left for work. O never mind I found it in the bathroom.
Nicole just kept her eyes shut, pretending that she was fast asleep. She did not have the energy to face or confront Derrick. Sleep only came hours later for her, long after Derrick already fell asleep.
The next morning Nicole felt even worse - waking up alone. Derrick was nowhere to be found.
Even on our anniversary he cannot get away from me fast enough she thought to herself. She tried to get the terrible feeling out of her head , but to no avail.
She could not help noticing the man cleaning the pool - Esteban. The poolboy that came once a week to make sure that their pool was always bright and clean. Esteban, the Spaniard that was really easy on the eyes. Esteban, the man who has been flirting with her for the past two years. The guy she had to repremand a few times, because he tried to kiss her on more than one occasion
She had never had the urge to cheat on Derrick - for her Derrick was the perfect husband, the man she fell in love with when they were still teenagers, the man she wanted to spend her whole life with.
But what is the use if it is only me that feel this way? she thought to herself with a bitter expression on her face.
In an instant she made up her mind. Why must I be faithful if Derrick is not?
She walked over to Esteban and without saying a word, or giving him a chance to say anything, she just pulled him closer to her and started kissing him.
Nicole, what are you doing? She could hear the shock in Derrick's voice.
She knew right away that Derrick saw everything. She first wanted to explain and tell him it is not what he thinks, but then she turned around, her eyes hard and cold and said I am just returning the favour of what you are doing to me, behind my back with Chandre.
Chandre is a sales lady at the car dealership. I bought you a car as a suprise anniversary gift. I want you packed and out of my house in an hour.
With that Derrick turned around and walked up the stairs and Nicole knew that she had just lost the most important person in her life.
