Our Immortal Regiment. 9th of May - Victory Day

My daughter is holding photos of my grandmothers and grandfathers. They were little kids during the war and I will not wish anybody experience what they did.

As many of you know on the 9th of May Russia and other countries celebrate the Victory Day.
On the 9th of May we planned to walk with the Immortal Regiment. It is a great opportunity to recollect people who rescued their lives for Motherland.

But plans changes as ....there was an attempt to steel my new car. On the 8th of May. They broke a passenger back window. Luckily there were no more damages but still it was very stressful for me.
So, we had to change the window and we were late for the Immortal Regiment.

But we decided not to change the plans and to celebrate the Victory Day.
We went to the main square with the Eternal Fire of a little town next to Moscow. It was very nice in the park. A gramophone playing military songs. Dancing people. Tons of flowers next to the Eternal Fire.

After we visited a little Military museum next to the park.

At the backyard there are monuments to Lenin which were collected from different places.

Then we visited our friends and had barbecue. For some time kids were quiet and later we discovered them painting pavement. So, they found paint somewhere and look at the result:

They were punished. Not serious.))) And later kids were cleaning the pavement. It would be better if they didn't as all clothes and shoes were in paint.))))

Our men made us a wonderful dinner.

if men cook, tanks are there too.)))

congrats and awesome you are together and remembering those moments

thank you so much!

Victory Day is so weird.
One evil destroyed and replaced another evil. What's there to celebrate.

It is more about remembering your loved ones, at least i look at it like that, rather than celebrating someone destroying someone else.

Frankly speaking I wanted to ignore this comment (without offending anyone) . There are several issues I try not to discuss. And the politics and religion are among them as it is useless to discuss. Everybody will stay with their own opinion. But I think if one country attacks another, another had to defend. And war is evil. And the end of war is a holiday. I don't wish even my enemy to live during the war. And Stalin is a different topic to discuss.

Only thing that Russia was an aggressor too like Germany.
Remembrance is understandable, but the general vibe most russians in Estonia give off is that Russia was a force of good in WW2, which is ridiculous. 11 years ago there was a mass russian unrest on Victory Day in our Capital. There was even a failed coup. And it all started because the city officials decided to relocate a statue (dedicated to all unknown fallen soldiers in WW2) from the city center to a cemetery, where it belongs. It's crazy. Russians are like a ticking time bomb here. Dare to say something bad (but factually correct) about their heroes and they go crazy.
Well, that's where I'm coming from. I don't celebrate Victory Day, as WW2 ended in 1991 for us like many others.

It is good to spend the remembrance day enjoying life, especially with your children. That's what the soldiers sacrificed for - peace and enjoyment of life.

How big is the 'little' town you went to? It looks like it would be the size of a city in my country hehe

))) thank you very much. We live in Moscow but we went to a little town called Odintsovo. It is just 20 mins drive from Moscow. The population is about 140 500 people.

That's what I thought. The capital city of my country has a population of 179,000. That's a big city for us. So your 'little town' is definitely a big city in my country ;-)
