As they say, “sugar covers many sins,” so Horse would forgive the Father for his silly ways.

That part got my attention, I know it's figuratively used but can sweetness(sugar) cover evil(sin)

    I don't know that sweetness can cover evil, but it can keep from escalating the situation. A soft response is less likely to makes things worse.
