[INCREDIBLE STORIES] HOW TO EXCHANGE AN APARTMENT WITH A RED CLIP

in #stories6 years ago

This story that im going to tell today is about a Canadian guy, Kyle McDonald, who, in 2006, when he was 26, exchanged through barter his red clip with an apartment .

It happened in Kipling Saskatchewan, Canada. Kyle published an announcement on Craiglist in July 2005: "My name is Kyle, I'm a 26 year old Canadian unemployed man, I want a house in barter, so i start the exchange by offering the red paper clip on my desk."
The starting point is a game for children very popular in Canada: it is called "Bigger and Better" and consists in the exchange of one object with another, which is bigger or better, until you get what you want.
It took 14 exchanges and a year of time but in the end it succeeded in the business.
The first to respond, two days after the publication of the first announcement on the blog, were Rhawnie and Corinna: via email they offered a wooden pen in the shape of a fish. Kyle went to Vancoveur and met them, they finished the deal, then he put their picture on his blog. And so, waiting for another exchange.
In Seattle, the pen is exchanged with a ceramic handle made by Mrs. Annie. The handle becomes a barbecue and then a gasoline electric generator (September 24th). Within a few weeks, the tam tam on the internet has made known the idea of young McDonald to the media and CNN and BBC contend for its interviews.
The electric generator "becomes" a barrel for beer, a snowmobile, a trip for two to Yak, in British Columbia (February 2006) until you get to a van and a record contract with Metal Works (February 22nd) 2006). Later he could exchange the contract for a year of free stay in a Phoenix home. Kyle accepts, updates the blog again and starts again. But the rent is not enough for him, he wants a house of his own.
And here comes the real breakthrough in Kyle's already successful story: metal rocker Alice Cooper offers an afternoon in his company in exchange for the year of rent. Leslie, an employee of the Alice Cooper restaurant, who is in Phoenix, will live in the apartment free of charge for twelve months. After the deal, Kyle finds himself choosing among many offers, and he makes the only barter seemingly at a loss: the afternoon with Alice Cooper goes to Mark Herrmann of Kentucky, for a bright globe of Kiss, historical hard rock band. Popularity helps him in the search, and in February director Corbin Bernsen offers a role in his next film in exchange for the Kiss globe.

At this point the Kipling municipality comes forward offering a newly renovated home to McDonald in exchange for its role in the Bernsen movie.

It is July 5, 2006, a year has passed.

Kyle made it, and in the lawn of his little house with red windows there's a big red metal clip.
