STOP WITH THE INTRODUCTIONS! NO ONES CARES WHO YOU ARE!

in #stop8 years ago (edited)

Without coming off sounding like an asshole I don't know how else to get this point across but here goes nothing.

If i have to scroll past one more introduction blog....

STOP POSTING GARBAGE MATERIAL.
STOP COPYING AND PASTING BUZZFEED ARTICLES ON TIPS TO LOSE 5 POUNDS.
YOU ARE DESTROYING THIS COMMUNITY.
QUIT UPVOTING HOT GIRLS.
QUIT UPVOTING BORING SHIT.

Steem is going to either survive and thrive or die tomorrow depending on the users and what they decide to post and upvote.

No one cares who you are unless you have an incredibly exciting life, which you probably don't.

If you don't have anything unique and interesting to say, just stick to upvoting other people who do.

The price of steem reflects how prosperous this community is and right now were tanking hard with no sign of a comeback.

I had to sell my steem at the $3.50 mark because of all the pure shit i see on here.

This isn't facebook, the community here is willing to pay you, so act like you are getting paid and put some fucking effort into your posts.

Most importantly start upvoting quality content, not what you think will make you the most money cause its getting the most attention.

If we don't change soon we are doomed and no one will remember what steem was a month from now.

Sort:
  1. You don't speak for everyone. Speak only for yourself. Some of us care about introductions.
  2. Complaining about other people's content is not adding much value. If you don't like what is being voted on then learn how Steem works and buy Steem Power so that your vote counts for more.

Steem Power is Voting Power. Steem Power are like Freedom Points. Steem Power can be considered like the retirement fund for content producers. For long term speculators Steem Power is compound interest.

If you don't like what is being curated then you should buy more Steem and power it up into Steem Power so you can curate for yourself what you care about

As a compromise, I would support having a better UI so that there are channels as there are on Reddit and other sites for people to subscribe to. Steemit is very new and the UI needs help. Instead of complaining about content or undermining the efforts of the producers of content who you see as competition it might be more productive if you help design a better user interface so that you don't have to see the content you don't particularly value.

As far as what I value, I personally value the content from regular people and to learn their perspectives. The whole point of going mainstream is that most people don't give a damn about what crypto nerds give a damn about but that doesn't mean their content isn't of value. Obviously if people are consuming it then it's valuable and value is subjective.

You don't speak for everyone either. Of course this site needs a lot of work but wht we really need is a downvote system so we can downvote boring shit into oblivion.

"Some of us care about introductions."

You might be the only one to ever say that on here. That's hilarious.

Flagging is a downvote, so you can use that if needed.

Clearly people care about introductions because they are the most popular section, people are upvoting them.

You are literally arguing against math.

That's the problem though. You are the one arguing against math. People aren't going to come to steemit to read what looks like a tinder bio. It's just young girls talking about what major they are in college and what they want to switch to and other useless info no one wants to read about. Time is precious and if you wanna waste your time reading boring shit be my guest, just know that it'sagainst what the site is supposed to be about, most quality content getting the most reward

The person I saw you be completely rude too did not have a sexual photo and talked about programming R a statistical language that scientists, specifically biologists use. It is very unlikely that post was fake, yet you acted completely rude.

If you have a problem with woman being economically incentivized to be treated as objects I agree, but you directing your anger to the wrong people. And there are better ways to constructively use that anger than to write all caps posts.

Voting on #introduceyourself is just a convention that was tacitly agreed to optimize bandwagon effect and maximize profits for large curators. Move it to another category and you'll observer the same phenomenon.

There's no need to be overly dramatic. Nothing is doomed. There is an abundance of high quality content, you just have to make the effort to look for it. It's there wether or not it has yet gained the recognition it deserves. If you don't like introduction posts, you don't have to read them. I agree with you, not all of them carry identical value as posts.....but they all represent valuable people (fake accounts aside.) A generous welcome helps to distribute steem more widely and in some cases the introductions have been extraordinary. Steemit is still in beta. There's plenty more time for everyone to find their feet and adjust to the new paradigm. As a trader, I guess fluctuations in the value of Steem is of great daily interest to you. On the other hand, many are interested in what the price will be in three months or a year or two. All the best.

I just want to see good stuff on the hot and popular topics because thats what new people are gonna check out and if its boring then it looks uninviting. I want quality not quantity. Just cause everyone can spell doesn't mean they should be a writer. If you aren't a good writer just stop, and start upvoting people who are writing about interesting topics. People figured out where the moneys at. Hot girls in bikini's always gets upvoted. It can't get any worse than that and introductions. Don't even get me started on introductions. Very few people can write interesting intro's and they have to have an interesting life also in order to do that. I read the intro from the Monero team member. That was decent stuff. Most people are just sitting on their asses or living boring lives that no one wants to hear about though.

I can understand some of your frustration. Consider though, that a new platform like Steemit may change people, encourage them to learn how to improve their writing skills or inspire them to lead a more interesting life, change their perspective, learn something of value.... There is a lot more going on here than is at first apparent. I believe things will improve from your point of view, from several directions.

We need that improvement soon bro.

Part of the issue is tagging. What we really need are sub-steems or just tags being used correctly. So, if you are a hot girl and you want to get money for being a hot girl, then use the tag "hotgirl" (or whatever makes sense) and do not use the tag "steem" or "steemit" or other tags that are not related to your hotgirlness. This will allow people to browse what they are interested in.

I agree with everything you've said. The issue is to be solved by enhancing the UI and tagging. Traderjeff shouldn't be forced to see any content he has not subscribed to have on his dashboard. Not everyone who uses Reddit wants to see the main Reddit either for many of the same reasons. At the same time the most popular content on Reddit deserves it's votes because it's the people who believed in Steem enough to buy Steem and convert it to Steem Power who have voting power.

If a person has enough Steem Power then it seems to produce compound interest so there might not be a reason to be a content producer forever. Acquiring Steem Power seems to be what the real inside game is. Maybe that is why 98% of Steem is locked up in Steem Power and it's not being dumped?

And the people who are willing to day trade Steem looking for quick profits will have the chance to do that but it will not negatively effect holders of Steem Power or Steem Dollars.

If we don't change soon we are doomed
Isn't that harsh?

All caps posting? Really? You are more annoying than the post you are claiming to hate.

Also if you want to actually contribute, then just make a add-on for your browser to filter out that tag.

But I guess being annoying and hateful is easier than doing something useful with your time?

if all caps triggers you go back to your safe space you little bitch.

Couldn't the same be said for your complaints? You are just hand waving and contributing nothing.

Also calling me a "little bitch" while writing a post whining about a easily fixable problem is rich.

Personal insults are the last resort of those who lack actual substance or intellect.

i hear there's a safe space at the nearest bernie rally go check it out

The market will decide what content is king.

and the market has decided half naked girls were a bad idea to upvote, which is why the price tanked. people thought it was going to be like reddit but better. turns out it's worse than reddit in a lot of ways

Well though this is your opinion and I respect it , it seems that votes (specially for the fair sex) prove you wrong. Personally I do not see anything bad with people up voting women, I mean since the begging of time they had our complete and utter attention (well women and killing things for their meat).

Thus you may not post something like an introduction and refrain from upvoting whatever it is you dislike , but everyone is free to do as he/she things best.

Cheers!

I just don't want people to take this site as a joke. Especially investors... When we have people making blogs that say "hi" and that's it, it looks unprofessional. We are seeing some high quality content on this site I just wish more people would mimic that. Some people just aren't meant to blog, they have nothing of value to say. I enjoy the random topics that 'New' brings but I hate the shit i gotta sort through to find cool/funny/interesting topics. At the very least our front page of Steemit needs to be covered with good stuff and it needs to be changing every 24 hours. People log on Steemit and see trash and see it making money so the imitate trash blogs in an attempt to make money. They create a new blog EVERY 5 minutes worth nothing of value, a lot of the time copy and pasted from some other site. We have all this room for creativity and people type like it's their tinder bio. No one cares you have a cat, no one cares you study biology, no one cares you work at wendys as your summer job. We want to read something that doesn't make us wanna blow our brains out. Let me read something that makes me want to keep coming back to steemit. I don't know if substeemits will help or not. We just need to clean up our act here so when other social media competitors trash us we can actually defend Steemit. Too much potential here to lose.

Steem just hit mania phase. lots of people will be entering. many of us here have been on the internet for a long time, and have seen all the cat videos, and chain emails, there are many more who are just starting to get on since smart phones have become affordable to a larger share of the world population. In the early days of bitcoin everyone was begging for freebies (and still is). We will see that here too until people learn how it all works. We will also see various gambling, ponzis and scams since those are the easiest to program, and make a quick profit.

enjoy the ride.
