@Isthatart and I have been discussing Seneca and his Stoic theories on life

Heres a link to the original

(Had to include a wicked picture of a statue of Nero consulting Seneca)

My reply...

To me, Seneca is basically just saying time is our greatest asset, and that we must all search to be virtuous people. and that to be virtuous all you really should do is study philosophy and focus on a eudaimonic happiness. like using your own time to focus on your own needs and goals. but not goals of luxury or garbage. One of understanding.
...like of course time is incorporeal so we waste it and rid of it, we postpone and over prepare and in doing so we miss life. then we wonder why we don't have a catalog or haven't achieved any grand things of our own creation and mind. and lots of it has to do with not being able to move on from things out of our immediate control.

so a solution is living every single day in the pursuit of your very own intentions. not to be lazy and to realize we are here to work, work towards our own ideas and virtues, if someone has done something to you that makes you feel a certain way, all you have in your control is how you react to it, how you think and feel about it and what your beliefs are about it.
The reaction is always instant that's why we have to train it. our thoughts decide how our choices are made and our beliefs allow what thoughts are most common for us. change your beliefs, your thoughts will start to be more agreeable and your reactions to others will be more calculated .

because being a professional doesn't ensure anything. An expert is just statistically more likely to be correct. apply that logic to philosophy and the pursuit of philosophy and the way an individual should live... I think the stoics were on to something

Thanks for reading and supporting the pursuit of philosophy and art!!

Ahh wonderful, @brado I love Steemit. How we can discuss what I'm learning from you and spread the love of philosophy..
I like this last part about what it means to be an expert. It's intersting to approach it like that. More mathematical.
That doesn't sound like a direct Seneca quote tho. You must have lifted that idea from somewhere else..
I do believe it applies tho.
Cheers and thanks again
