Stemng digest: week #10

in #stemng7 years ago (edited)

Welcome to the 10th episode of the stemng digest series where we bring to you some of the best posts under the #stemng tag in the past week.

It feels good to be back to business after the one week break. Now we have rebooted for a more engaged community.

For those that do not know yet, stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

More information about stemng activities can be found here, while details of what it means to be part of steemSTEM can be found here, as well.

As we usually do, we have rummaged through the stemng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out for week #10.

We started on Sunday so this week's episode will omit Saturday.

Sunday: Why Are You So Stressed Out? Stress the Highly Neglected Human Condition

The week started off with @casweeney's post. The post was right on time; it takes a rested mind and body to read an article on stress. In simple terms, the article explores the meaning of stress, the psychological and physiological reactions of the body to it, its causes, and of course, the prevention. It was an easy read which you can confirm when you visit the blog

Monday: YOUR ENGINE IS NOT A STATE, BUT IT HAS A GOVERNOR(An insight into how engine speed is maintained)

The second post on this week was that of @sogless. The article was on the engines, going through it we found out that hunting and governor can mean quite a different thing in mechanical engineering when an engine is the subject of discussion. A more detailed description of the governor from its types and application is just a click away from above.

Tuesday: Dogs are "man's best friend" -- Here's why they probably shouldn't feed like one!

This article is a must-read for all dog owners and lovers. @annieben took out time to educate us on the dos and don'ts of feeding the man's best friend. You may think that whatever food is right for you is also good for your dog, but that is not correct. It was a comprehensive write-up which could not be adequately covered by this summary. Take a stroll to the blog and get more informed. Thank you.

Wednesday: Universal forces of nature 01 -- Gravity. Newton's word Vs Einstein's!

It is said that when two big elephants fight the grass suffers. But when two great scientists disagree, other scientists get to have more information. The bone of contention is gravity and Newton and Einstein have a slightly different view on what it was. The latter said it was not a force but rather a distortion of space-time dimension while Newton has his model as a force. Details of all these and more can be found on the blog.

Thursday : The Death of Earth’s Sister Planet - VENUS

Our guide through the galaxy is @agbona, and the stop is on the planet of Venus. Many have much love for the Venus which is rightly so since it is the Roman goddess of love. But do you know its atmosphere could be as hot as hell at 465°C (870°F)? Or that its surface pressure is 90 times greater than that of the earth? It would be nice to know more about the fascinating planet by visiting the blog.

Friday: THE TASMANIAN DEVIL #ENDANGERED SPECIE; Description, classification, population, threats etc

Should you care about the devil? Maybe not, but you may want to care about the Tasmanian Devil, a tiny mammal which is at the risk of extinction. To read more of this article which is packed full of information on the animal's diet, reproduction, the risk of it going extinct, etc. please check the link above.
