Germany Becomes More Independent of China and the United States
Germany has begun to move away from both the United States and China in technology. Rising cyber attacks in the US have raised concerns among German leaders. In addition, Germany’s reliance on both countries may cost both countries if security measures are inefficient. Germany aims to be the leader of Europe in digital security.
People familiar with the EU situation know that Germany leads the EU. It holds the most gold in the world only behind the United States of America. In addition, many countries in Europe owe money to Germany. It's unlikely that countries will be able to leave the EU once they join, as this could cause issues with debt. As we see a rise of use in the digital world, Germany must lead in this area. Based on recent data breaches, hacks and ransomware, can Germany trust the United States? How about China?
Based on the actions we're seeing, Germany is preparing for its own future. While the Germans may still work with the United States and China in some areas, we should also expect them to work with Russia in others (natural gas and agriculture?). This may help them achieve a diverse economy as far as partners, which will help them reduce their dependency on any one of these countries. We saw what happened when Japan was cut off from the rare Earth element supply by China and how dependent Japan was on China. The United States has done nothing to stop the rise of China, or even limit the rise of China's dominant industries which can control other countries.
This shows why Germany's move to be less dependent on any one country will help it promote its vision of the EU in the long run.
