RE: Indispensable SteemWorld: Appeal for Support of @steemchiller and SPS Proposal #33

in #steemworld5 years ago

Very interesting origin of your account name then @leveuf - "the widower!" Mine is not nearly so clever or creative. Probably due to my not claiming any particular artistic talent (I do enjoy taking pictures though ... 😉), but instead just a "black and white" engineer ...

You can find my intro post in the link found on my profile. Following what I understood the "rules" of our Steem blockchain to be, it was the first one I wrote ...

As for eSteem, I have heard of it, but never used it. I even downloaded the app, but still have yet to use it ... Very early on in my Steem "journey" I had a very good exchange with the founder of Partiko - @crypto.talk. Out of loyalty to him and due to the excellent performance of it, I never needed to look anywhere else. Sadly, @crypto.talk has not been "seen" or "heard" since March 2019. There is speculation about what happened to him, but I personally simply do not know. So ... Perhaps I will give eSteem a try at some point ...

I have also heard of SteemPress, but the one time I began to pursue getting set up on it, I was stopped by two issues:

  1. It does not (probably cannot, due to the way SteemIt wrote the blockchain code) appear to help content creators get past the “locked down” subset of HTML code supported by SteemIt.

  2. It is tied to WordPress and getting some sort of license. Which, in turn, requires a lot more personal identification details than what is required to actively engage on our Steem blockchain.

#1 has been a huge source of frustration, since I spend a lot of time trying to get my posts to a certain standard. And #2? I am very private and prefer to maintain my privacy "in here," as much as I can manage. Setting up a license seemed to defeat that objective ...

This said, I have never gone back to delve deeper into each of these issues. Perhaps my initial impressions are incorrect. Or there may be benefits that far outweigh these detriments. Your thoughts and input on SteemPress are welcome! 😊

Sort:

About SteemPress you are right in the second point, more information is needed and a blog with hosting service too (there are some free hosting services that work with the WordPress dashboard and they are allowed for the use of the SteemPress plugin). The second point can be solved using only the allowed set of htlm tags in the classic editor in WordPress through its htlm mode, this publish just as you like in steem, you can later edit with more options your published wordpress post. There's also a markdown plugin in WP. All this said, I think you are doing great without plugins!! ;)
More hugs and good vibes, @Roleerob!!

Nice the way you broke out this portion of your response @leveuf, from the other. I like that!

I do have on my "things to do" list to further investigate SteemPress. So, I need to get past my concerns and take a closer look, since it is my understanding WordPress is a big deal when it comes to content creation ...

From a long professional career, I am very particular (some might say too particular ...) about how my posts are constructed. At heart, I am a "substance" guy, but I learned a long time ago, in professional sales, that if your "image" isn't up to a certain standard, others are far less likely to invest their time in learning more about your "substance." I don't know if that will translate well, but hopefully it will make sense ...

P.S. "I think you are doing great without plugins!! ;)" Yes, I have spent a considerable amount of time learning how to get past the limitations of markdown and use HTML code directly, where it is needed. My "magnum opus" work on my two "Introduction to the Steemisphere" posts ran smack up against the limitations even of that. Only after I had already written them ... 😧 😞 👎

P.P.S. Some have called me a "wizard" when it comes to using Microsoft Word. While I reject that title, I have spent years developing my skills with using it to its maximum capabilities. It is from this base and skillset for written communications that I came into our Steem blockchain ...

At heart, I am a "substance" guy, but I learned a long time ago, in professional sales, that if your "image" isn't up to a certain standard, others are far less likely to invest their time in learning more about your "substance."

It translates perfectly and you are absolutely right. Presentation is an opened (or closed) door to the substance of almost everything.

I do have on my "things to do" list to further investigate SteemPress.

Yes, but I recommend to you to first visit your eSteem (desktop or mobile) app and even to upgrade if needed. I know Trincowski is a great user, maybe he can give you some further advice! However SteemPress have made some big steps lately which could results in growing, is also worth to take a look!!

Of course I'll visit soon your work about the Steemisphere!! I'm sure you are a true "Wizard" not only of the Microsoft Word!! :)
More hugs, @Roleerob!!

Thanks for the additional input @leveuf. I certainly value it and I will have to look into these two interfaces more, as my time permits. As for this ...

"I'm sure you are a true "Wizard" not only of the Microsoft Word!! :)"

... you are kind, but ... I have worked hard to acquire the skill set I have. From which position I then can make a far better judgment than most as to what a "wizard" might look like. And subsequently know for sure that I am not there yet ... 😉

Your standards must be high! But maybe you are very close to that point of "wizardness"!
The best is that you are keeping relaxed just knowing what objectives you have and what's really important in life (Appreciation for your Time as a good example)!! :)

Yes, amen to this @leveuf ...

"... and what's really important in life (Appreciation for your Time as a good example)!! :)"

... the older I get, the more I appreciate the value of time. And, as a result, regretting my wasting of too much of it in the past and more resolute about making better use of it, in the future ...

I take your words deep in my heart to value my time just as you. But I know every experience conforms the person that we are now, maybe the time "wasted" in the past was necessary in some way. Your present time is more bright and your future is clear!!

Over my long life @leveuf ...

"... maybe the time "wasted" in the past was necessary in some way."

... while it would be nice if I never made a mistake (like wasting time ...) or created a problem, for myself or others, I don't believe that is possible. So ... Hopefully you and I, as we live life and "learn the hard way" where we have erred, we can at least look back and say "we learned something" for the next time! 👍

As there is almost inevitably a "next time" ... 😉

Hello, @Roleerob!! I've been reading your presentation on your first year in steemit, and all its ramifications in other post about your character, goals and passion for life, family and God. You have made great friends too!! I find that your writing style is very elegant, sincere and attractive, words come in an artistic way in your different areas of interest. I'll be taking more tours through your blog!!
I have another reply from you which I'm going to attend, and you have a new post. We can continue the conversation there because I think here is even less and less space!! :)
(Edit: Here in steempeak, the cascade of comments keep a good design!! :O)

Thank you sir! I am glad you have invested your valuable time to let me know you have found some value in reading through some of what I have written in the past.

"Conventional wisdom" here on our Steem blockchain is to pick a specific topic and stick with that. I have ignored that advice and just write about whatever suits me at any given point in time ... 😉 Now, I am not saying that is the brightest decision, if my sole focus was to maximize my Steem earnings. But ... That is not my primary focus ...

You also have a comfortable manner of communicating. As though we were just having a good conversation, were that possible. "In here" we do the best we can with this remarkable substitute. Where we can develop and maintain relationships with others all over the world!

Looking forward to keeping in touch @leveuf!

P.S. Yep, SteemPeak is the best!! 👍

Hello @Roleerob!! I was a little busy yesterday but here I am, wishing you an excelent sunday!!
It's too many people here and to many lifestyles and cultures, the possibility to get in touch with people from all around the world its impressive!! Different from Facebook and Twitter whose algorythms make you to consume only certain kind of content and a few relations through your feed!! Here you can decide for yourself!
I take some trips to another topics too, some of them far from my specialty, during the boom of Utopian I even made a couple of posts about working with the integration of Ubuntu and Windows while learning myself about some commands. But I did not continue that path!! (You have to know that I studied electronic engineering for two years but long time ago, but also I don't continued that path) Sometimes politics, sometimes philosophy or psychology are other branches that I explore!!
While you can connect with so many people you discover some connections that are more strong than others. Many of them prefer Discord than to have a conversation "in here". I need to be sincere, I don't use the Discord too much, just the necessary!! So is great when you find someone to make dialog here in the blockchain!! So, I'm glad when I find a person like you to connect!! :)

Yes, Sunday was very busy for me as well. Was not "in here" at all, with visiting family ...

Very good @leveuf ...

"I need to be sincere, I don't use the Discord too much, just the necessary!! So is great when you find someone to make dialog here in the blockchain!! So, I'm glad when I find a person like you to connect!! :)"

... as it is nice to find a "kindred spirit." I simply don't have time to "chat" on Discord. To my eyes, far too much of it is just an idle waste of time. I value my time too much ...

That said, I have carried on a very few personal "conversations" in there. For the simple reason I have been asked questions that I am not willing to have the answers to “immutably enshrined in the blockchain.” Too personal or private (in a good way ... 😉)

I'm glad you've spent a beautiful sunday with your Family!!

I need to say your words are a balsam to my ears. 😏 I often think that I need to spend some time on discord but when I finally go there I ask to myself "What am I doing here?" So I go to specific groups or events to share a post or to say what I need to say preferably to an specific person!! As a reference I hated chatting in messenger since the beginning of times, I've always preferred a concrete email. However same as you, I recognize is a powerful tool to organize communications that have no need to be in the blockchain or need to be private.
P.S. Ups, maybe I should tell you this via discord!! 😉

Yes sir ...

"What am I doing here?"

... that is a common thought of mine as well @leveuf. With you, though, we recognize the utility of it, so it is a nice tool to have at our disposal, as needed.

"P.S. Ups, maybe I should tell you this via discord!! 😉"

I'd welcome that, if there is some value you in it for you. My Discord name is @roleerob#3299.

Thanks for your invitation!
We are now friends "in there"! 🙂
Big Hugs!!

👍🙂
