I have just finished the first version of an Add-on for Steemit that helps you find new followers and engagement on Steemit - start finding your school of friendly fish today! This tool searches for posts that are similar to your new one from the last 7 days on Steemit, so you can make sure you aren't duplicating content and can find like minded Steemians who are also interested in your topics

With great power comes great responsibility!

This tool is intended to help you to improve your post quality on Steemit and the uniqueness of your posts. It can also connect up like minded Steemians quite well too.

However, it also makes the opposite easier too - in that it is now simpler to search for posts to copy from and to also spam with your links. DO NOT DO THAT - You will run the risk of losing reputation, of downvotes and of maybe even being banned. Just use the tool as is intended and all will be well!

Installation

This is an addon that runs using the Tampermonkey / Greasemonkey Addons for common web browsers. I am using Tampermonkey here and this is how I set it up:

1. Go to your browser's addons/extensions area - e.g. Firefox's can be found via Firefox's main menu at: Tools->Add-Ons (Keyboard Shortcut = Ctrl + Shift + A).
2. Search for 'Tampermonkey' in the main search bar.
3. Install Tampermonkey by clicking 'Install' next to the Tampermonkey row in the search results.
4. Visit the page for my Add-on at either OpenUserJS or Greasyfork.
5. Install the script by clicking 'Install' (You may need to then click install on the next page too).
6. Use Steemit!

That's it.

How to use

You will now see a new button appear in Steemit when you create a new post marked 'Show Similar Posts From Previous 7 Days'. The script uses your new post's Title and Tags to search Steemit via DuckDuckGo (A privacy focussed Search Engine) and shows you all posts that might be similar to your new one. If you do not add any title or tags then you cannot run the search.

Just click the new button and the search results will open in a new browser tab. From there you can read through the list of posts from Steemit that are similar to yours.

You could use the list to:

1. Find new friends who are interested in the topics that you are posting about.
2. Improve the uniqueness of your new post by making sure that you aren't duplicating what others have already written. This is a good idea since uniqueness is what attracts votes and readers on Steemit more than most other things.
3. Find posts that you can write TACTFUL and friendly comments under which point people to your new post - so that interested folks can discover your work while engaging with similar material.

Future Versions

I think it would be a good idea to add this feature to existing posts, so that we can get the same benefit when viewing posts from others - I will add this in a future update.

I would also like to integrate the search results right into the Steemit.com origin page - but I am blocked from doing that due to Steemit.com's security policy. If anyone knows of a way to get around that then let me know.
