[Steem-Tip] How to avoid a Writers Block

in #steemtip7 years ago

Writing here on Steemit is amazing! But after a while you may lose inspiration on what to write about. You keep struggling to create new content and you get that one common problem for writers: A Writer’s Block. It’s actually inevitable because everyone will get it at one point. When you are writing for a long time, it’s all about overcoming the challenges you face each day as a writer. You need fresh inspiration on what to talk about.

It can be quite frustrating if you aren’t able to think of anything to write about. In those situations you like to give up and just quit because it’s not fun anymore but more of a job. Writer’s block can occur by different factors like perfectionism to do everything just perfect, having a bad timing or fear that your posts don’t work or can’t write anything else anymore.

So how can you get back in the saddle when you got a writer’s block?

Express the problem and talk or write about it

Writing about what your problems are and how you feel about it is a great start. You will do some self reflecting and start questioning yourself about what is causing this problem. Your mind might be filled with a lot of information and you can’t process it anymore. Well that state of mind is an important thing and if you write about it you know what the problem is so you can ask help from others. When you wrote the problem or problems down you can start searching for ways to solve those problems in an effective way and write about that as well. Ask others and talk with each other. When you do such a thing you talk about it and can find the answer yourself. Or when you talk to others you can find inspiration about something different again and write about that!

Don’t stare at a blank screen. Go out!

The worst thing you can do is to sit behind a desk and stare at a blank screen. Instead you have to go out and do stuff. Go buy some groceries or do some chores you putted off for a while. When you do physical tasks your mind wanders off to new things and when you look around you can find new inspiration. Perhaps you do some ironing and you think that you can make that process a lot faster. Well that’s new inspiration where you can write about! Focus on other things that make you happy and change location once in a while. It will get your flow back!

Music is key!

Music elevates you. Music that you like brings you to your happy place. I’ve recently found a track that I like so much and every time I listen to it (which is 100 times a day right now haha) I got a smile on my face and dance a bit. I don’t think about anything else anymore and just go with the flow. In fact, studies have shown that listening to music can help you overcome this problem and that it’s a great mood booster. Just make a great playlist and listen to music you aren’t listening too. Discover new tracks everyday! This will free your mind.

Activity helps a lot

Doing physical activities is always best. It will release stuff in your body that is positive for your mindset. Take breaks between your writing and take some walks, go take a bike ride or do some meditation! Engage in physical activities for 30 minutes and you feel refreshed. You can brainstorm about new stuff again and your productivity will increase once more.

Read about what others write

Yes, reading helps too. What inspires others to write about. Do you like it? Do you have an opinion about it? Well write about it! This is a quick way to gain inspiration and Steemit is full of articles. Each second there are dozens of new posts made! There is a lot to read about and just read what you like. You will get inspiration and you can write about something else then!

No problem. I do hope you won't get it early on. But just do tons of other stuff to get rid of it!

Yeah, it's a work in progress. Thanks

Good read and tips. I've had a writers block myself once and working out really does help!

I wanted to leave a comment, but I couldn't think of anything to write ;-)
