“Why are plants green?”

This is a question that we always hear from people even children also ask this question too. This question is not actually an easy question, and I consider this question as a question that has a quite widespread knowledge. All people should know that the plant generally, have characteristic green color this is because the plant cells contain certain molecules, the molecule called. Naturally, the plant is green, a vegetal cell contains many molecules that have variety of color. For instance, Flavonoid, Tanin, Alchaloid and there are many compound that distribute to form all of the colors in a plant, from stem to flower. This compound may contain in the Vacoule, in the large acqueous organelles or in plastids. Plastids is an organells that can be found in chloroplast. The chlorophyll is an important part in Photosynthesis and the chlorophyll is particularly give a plant abundant green part. Big thanks to the chlorophyll.

There’s the answers, that is not my actual question actually. My real question is “ Why Chlorophyll Green?”

Does this question make sense? Yes, the chlorophyll is a compound formed by the natural evolution to absorb the Sunlight(The first phase of the Photosintesis) and the chlorophyll works well. But, for those who know a little physics, they will know about any object that appears to us coloured. Means that a part of light spectrum reflected by the object surface and it will reflect into our eyes. If you see a red rose, this is because the red rose petals absorb all of the wave but not the red color. From that, we can sau that if we see the green plant green because of the Chlorophyll that absorb all of the wave but not the green color wave. Means that the natural selection is not do an optimum works in light absorbing. Infact, all of the process is more efficient if the Chlorophyll or another molecules can absorb the whole light spectrum which is visible.

This graph shows that the Chlorophyll not absorb the Green Wavelength but the chlorophyll is reflecting the Green Wavelength. The chlorophyll is absorb the red wavelength and the blue wavelength very well, and not reflecting them. This graph indicates that Chlorophyll absorb pretty much nothing in the Green wavelength, infact it reflects it. Viceversa Chlorophyll absorb very well red and blue wavelenghts, not reflecting it.

This is Chlorophyll A Structure( There is so many kinds of Chlorophyll)

My question is answered but I still had doubt. Does it will makes sense if we talk about the evolution in this way? I don’t know. But now just think about the consequences! If this is true. All plant must be black color, this is not so pleasant, but it is more efficient.

This will lead to a new question! Black plants couldn’t be a real things. But why is the natural evolution prefer green colour and not the other colors like blue, purple or orange?. Why ? I mean that is there are any different between the molecule that reflect a specific color like the green wave only reflect green wave and blue waves reflect only the blue waves. What about a blue plant? It must be cool right?

What I should do with my doubt by asking the vegetal biology professor in my campus. I need to email him about this question. I need help from my friend from the science faculty because this is not in my field. But, literally anyone of them can answer this question.

I still not get the answered for this question. If you know why the plant is green? I am invite you come here and tell me why .

your knowledge is very broad and very useful
thank you for your explanation. @zouxx

Thanks for reading my post , hope you will stay tune and join my adventure :)

explanation of green plants are very clear, now I already understand a lot about it

Love to hear that, for more information please visit the website at the reference okay :)

As far as I understand it, the reason for plants being green is mainly because of the energy cost efficency. There's a study by Marosvölgyi et al., which explains the details.

Thanks for the info :)
