Robot News: Is LaGuardia Airport's surveillance robot a pervert?

in #steemstem6 years ago

According to recent news LaGuardia Airport just got a new surveillance robot and it is making life more stressful for passengers arriving via Terminal B. Beyond that, reports are inferring that people should now prepare themselves to be stared and and even potentially stalked by this new security robot.

According to airport officials the robot is still “in the testing phase,” and those same airport officials have placed the autonomous surveillance robot outside Terminal B. It has now become blatantly obvious that the ‘bot — officially called the Knightscope K5 — has become increasingly unpopular with both passengers and human security counterparts alike according to the The New York Post.

It’s upsetting to have that thing creep up on you,” one female security guard revealed to the Post. “It’s a pain in the a--. It keeps bothering people.”

If you can't imagine the K5 in action, check out this short video clip below to get on the same page:

According to the same security guard quoted above. Apparently she has a theory that her male co-workers at LaGuardia are able to remotely manipulate the robot so they can “get a better look” at women. This has been disputed by officials in charge of the building of Terminal B who have made it clear that doing what she has described is simply impossible.

"The bot cannot be hijacked; there is no mechanism for allowing a human to control it [that way]," a representative for LaGuardia Gateway Partners tells Fox News, adding that the robot works via "geofencing," or sensing objects or persons nearby, and then readjusting its course autonomously.

“Whatever is being alleged is not possible," added LaGuardia Gateway Partners in response to accusations of human-manipulation.

Apparently the bot isn't making many friends. “They just laugh at it,” one security guard told the Post, adding that he found the robot to be a “waste of money.”

There is a saying that the first one out of the gate is bound to get a bit bloody. I do believe that is the case we are looking at here...

What do you guys think of this new security bot? Would it annoy you having it follow you around and stare at you while you are trying to use the airport toilet?

They should have increase the salaries/welfares of their security men than waste it on a robot

Good point. I'm afraid the world is going too far in the way of bots and not enough care and consideration towards the wellbeing of people these days...

Yeah you are right... Everything that has advantage has a disadvantage.. More bots will lead to unemployment...

It should atleast give free rides !!

this is crazy and cool at the same time not sure how i really feel deep down inside me about it tho.

Nowadays, robot take place in our workplace but robot is now very much powerful each and everywhere. Moreover, the are doing their job properly. Thanks for your informative post.
