The practice of yoga has a large physical and mental health benefits nowadays. It improves brain functions, denser bones, and immunity towards health and also improved the nervous system with strength. In a survey, it is found that over 36 million Americans practice yoga and enjoys benefits of stronger body and health. It helps to remove stress and increase happiness.

Yoga is spiritual discipline dating back to some 5000 years ago in the history of India. In recent time yoga is very popular. A yoga instructor and physician says that he uses yoga for treatment of sclerosis, arthritis and many others. In an interview with live science, Dr. Loren says that many recent studies show the amazing effects yoga has on the brain, central nervous system, and immune system.

According to B.K.S. Iyengar

Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self-realization.

Yoga thickens the layer of cerebral cortex a part of the brain which is attached to higher learning, increase reasoning and neuroplasticity. It helps us to change the way of doing things.

The neuroscience behind the yoga can explain why regular yoga is effective to reduce the stress and creating the balance in the body. It will also help you deepen your Yoga practice and increase focus on elements that you might otherwise overlook.

According to Annie wood besant-

Yoga is a science, and not a vague dreamy drifting or imagining. It is an applied science, a systematized collection of laws applied to bring about a definite end. It takes up the laws of psychology, applicable to the unfolding of the whole consciousness of man on every plane, in every world, and applies those rationally in a particular case. This rational application of the laws of unfolding consciousness acts exactly on the same principles that you see applied around you every day in other departments of science.”

Science secret on Yoga and stress.

The two functional parts of the brain that play a big role in stress. These serve the functions of emotion and cognitive function. So We can say them the ’emotional’ brain called amygdala and which connections to medial forebrain structures along with the medial prefrontal cortex and the ‘logical’ brain called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the other parts of the prefrontal cortex, parts of the cingulate cortex and parts of the hippocampus. The emotional brain initiates a ‘stress response’ via the sympathetic nervous system which culminates in adrenaline and cortisol racing through our circulation. The logical brain is always trying to ‘turn-off’ these stress response and it is also trying to stop the emotional brain. As stronger our logical brain, the better it becomes at doing these two things. When the stress response is ‘turned off’, our parasympathetic nervous system signal is ‘turned on’. This signal ‘relaxes’ the body. So a strong logical brain goes hand in hand with relaxation.

Yoga is training in which entire stress at two phases. First, we are ‘holding’ a posture, staying very still to concentrate or trying to balance, our logical brain for being activated. When we bend forwards then our ‘relaxation’ signal is being turned on via the ‘switches’ in the neck. Thus bend forwards and concentrate at the same time is started triggering both the logical brain and the relaxation signal at the same time.”

Yoga Changes chemical structures and working of your brain.

Yoga includes the mindful and controlled entrance into a pose or we say asana holding the pose in stillness, and then a controlled release. This type of workout, it takes strong prefrontal and active cortex activity which maintains your concentration and stillness. “Just as you hold a posture, your prefrontal cortex is countering the raised sympathetic signal because it helps you to be focused. This is the way you train your mind to maintain your stress signal under your own control. Stepwise your mind learns how to do this, you get better at doing these even outside of the yoga room. Actually, with practice, you will be able to maintain self-control in most stressful times”.

The Yoga helps to boost brain chemicals which promote a sense of being well. This helps in increase of the levels of the brain chemicals like GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, those happy chemicals responsible for feelings of relaxation and contentment. These neurotransmitters which are pointed by the drugs for medicating moods, such similar to anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs. Now yoga has long been shown to successfully reduce and heal anxiety and depression.

Yoga balance your emotions

Yoga helps to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for calm us. Triggering the parasympathetic nervous system starts the process of restoration and healing in our body. Blood flows toward endocrine glands, digestive organs, and lymphatic circulation. Blood pressure and the heart rate are lower, nutrients in food can be absorbed inflexible and the toxins which are released from our body due to enhanced circulation.

According to Indira Devi

Yoga is a way to freedom. By its constant practice, we can free ourselves from fear, anguish, and loneliness.

Yoga works in healing trauma

Yoga is used as a trick to heal trauma and has successfully been used with PTSD. We know that one of the effects of PTSD is that it leaves people to feel a disconnect between themselves and from the world. During Yoga sleep, start to feel reconnected to and the world and experience the feeling of finally started coming, to daily life.”

Their yoga therapy also can found everywhere.
Today our United Nations also celebrate the 21 June as international yoga day.
