Can you imagine what we could do if you could bring even 1/10th the energy used to mining BTC to computing for science?
I think Gridcoin is going to explode in 2018, following a great brand update and thanks to the huge, untapped, BOINC user base.
Removal of the team requirement alone I think would propel us to > $1.00 in short order.
Indeed, there would be vast computational power available to scientists. Any problem amenable to computational simulations could be solved very quickly. OpenZika is also only one of several projects on World Community Grid that could make a real difference in people's lives, the other ones being fightAIDS@home, Outsmart Ebola Virus, Computing for Clean Water, Help Stop TB (tuberculosis), Help Fight Childhood Cancer and the Microbiome Immunity Project.
