[DTube] Integral of ∫cos^4(x)dx using the Reduction Formula
In this video, we work through the process of solving the integral of ∫cos^4(x)dx.
The main aim is to reduce the power down to unity. We can do this either by using the half-angle formula like so...
cos^4(x) = [cos^2(x)]^2 = [1/2+cos(2x)/2]^2
But this way, we have to apply the half-angle formula twice. A more efficient way would be to use the reduction formula for the integral of powers of cosine.
