Can you see what I see?

That's right, it's the black and yellow garden spider. I can't say the scientific name but Wikipedia can so if you want to try it here's a garden spider called in Latin.

Argiope aurantia

Isn't it beautiful? The web is also beautiful and huge. Later on I will share a better close up picture.

The web is so cool, it's like pies with grids. It starts out small then it got bigger and wider. Then there's this funny zipper of web going to the middle towards the garden spider which is called stabilimentum.

From LiveScience.com, we got this part about the web.

Isn't it exactly as what we have on the picture?

Oh, we got 4 and a quarter inches of rain

It was raining today, it wasn't that bright outside but the garden spider's web was so big so we can see it clearly from inside the house.

Dad looked out the window and saw it first. Then he called us and showed us.

Mom took the picture of this beautiful garden spider. It was still drizzling this morning when we took the picture but we didn't mind.

I checked the rain gauge and we got 4.25 inches of rain! We have puddles around the house.

Silver and Gold

Can you see the head looks silvery? And the yellow spots like gold?

Aurantia means overlaid with gold.

You might have a different looking garden spider.

This kind can be from southern Canada to lower 48 US States according to the University of Michigan's zoology website.

And if you look at where the spider built it's web, it's on a sunny bright side of the house with some trees.

And here is what they say on the Habitat. It's similar to what they say on ProjectNoah.org.

I wonder why they're not common in the Rocky Mountains...

Homestead Critters

And that's just one of the creatures we have at the homestead. They're cool and bright and they eat bugs so they're great to have.

Here's another one with rain on the web.
