Jan 31st was the second full moon in a single calendar month, but does anybody out there really care what that means. Here is a guide to what it means

WHAT IS FULL MOON?
Ever heard the slang " blue moon in the clear sky".
It's actually referring to the FULL MOON but this saying might not be totally logical in the sense that we can have a full moon when any of this two happens, either the moon turns blue due to a rare type of dust in the atmosphere or when the volcanoes erupt, the moon can also turn blue. But what makes the blue moon special is it's rarity.

How Rare Is a Blue Moon?

The term once in a Blue Moon means that something is rare. Blue Moons happen once every two or three years. In the 1100 years between 1550 and 2650 (UTC), there are 408 seasonal Blue Moons and 456 monthly Blue Moons.

The last double blue moon happened in 1999 and it is believed that it happens only 3 to 5 times in a century . So according to scientific predictions , the next double blue moon is scheduled to occur in 2037.

Note : There can never be a double seasonal Blue Moon, as that would require 14 Full Moons in the same year, which is not possible because the time between two Full Moons is approximately 29.5 days.

However, the Full Moon can look red if other sizes of dust particles fill the atmosphere or during Total Lunar Eclipses, which are much more common than Moons that look blue;as was visible on Jan 31st 2018 in large parts of US,northeastern Europe, Russia, Asia, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, and Australia.
