Changes

This year has brought quite a few changes to both my personal life as well as my business career. California enacted new laws to how it handles crime and the people accused of those crimes, causing my family's bail bond business to lose over 30%+ of our business revenue. This in turn has caused our company to make drastic financial changes to our operation, hurting both employees as well as all the owners.

These changes to California Bail law and practices actually began to take place in 2015 with Proposition 47 taking into effect. Proposition 47 decriminalized drug possessions and other non-violent felonies making them Misdemeanors, made the Bail Schedule (Amount) very low for these crimes, and further encourages law enforcement on Pre-Trial release, thereby eliminating the need for a Bail Bond in these types of cases. Proposition 47 did not immediately impact our business, but has gradually affected our business, culminating with the closure of one of our company offices in Feb. 2017, eliminating unnecessary expenses, lowering all other expenses as much as possible including owner salaries and (most painful for me) cutting employee hours.

These last six months did put our business into a tailspin, but we have managed to gain control and have prepared for a hard landing. There are many changes on the horizon for the Bail Bond Industry in California and in other states as well, and we are preparing our business as best we can to make it a softer landing, rather than a crash. There are still quite a few things that we must do, but much of the "hard" stuff has already been done. And with that, I finally have been able to settle down into a new place [finally but temporary :-( sad face ] and take sum much needed time off [ happy face :-) ] to just relax and re-invigorate for the up coming changes and battles.

Baja Sunrise and Illusion

I have been going down to Baja California, Mexico since I was a teenager, and I don't ever tire of the never ending sand, sun and isolation. So after making many of the need changes and restructuring of our company, I finally decided to take some days off to just relax and unwind in the Baja Sun. So even though I was tired and beat, I still managed to wake up before the sunrise to catch that amazing moment when the Sun first peeks out from below the Horizon.

Does that sound right, "the Sun first peeks out from BELOW the Horizon?" Well, it actually 'Does NOT Sound Right' but it is true that the Sun first peeks out from below the Horizon. In this case, the first image where you see the first glimmer of sunlight is actually a refraction of the light from the Sun, which actually is still below the horizon. Then as the Sun rises further, the two seem to blend into one, as seen in the second picture. Read more on this phenomenon of the Sun Here.
