Toronto Wins Game 2 Against Washington

All-star guard DeMar DeRozan matched his career high points scored in a playoff game, scoring 37 points to lead the Raptors to a 130-119 game 2 win against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Raptors managed to take a 2-0 lead in their first round series against the Wizards,and this is their first time taking a 2-0 lead in a playoff series, in franchise history. Toronto made 12 of their 13 attempts from the three-point line, making only one in the second half. They tallied a team playoff record of 16 three-pointers made in Game 1. Toronto scored 44 points in the first quarter to set a team playoff record. DeRozan scored 13 of Toronto’s 44 first quarter points. All of their five starters made at least 1 three-pointers and the Raptors shot a total of 7 for 13 from beyond the arc. Washington’s all-star backcourt, John Wall and Bradley Beal, each picked up two early fouls and forced them to the bench.
Jonas Valanciunas had a double-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks, while Kyle Lowry had a double-double, as well, with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists and 1 steal. CJ Miles added 18 points and 2 rebounds including four 3s, while Serge Ibaka played great defense finishing the game with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks. Meanwhile, guard Fred VanFleet returned after sitting out Game 1 due to a bruised right shoulder.

John Wall led Washington with 29 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists and 1 block. Wall scored 14 points in the third period, going 11 for 11 at the free throw line. All-star guard Bradley Beal missed 8 out of his 11 shots, finishing the game with only 9 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Mike Scott helped John Wall in scoring, finishing the game with 20 points, 4 rebounds and an assist including 4 three-pointers. Ian Mahinmi added 12 points with a perfect 4 for 4 from the field, but was called for a flagrant foul on Ibaka in the second period. Meanwhile Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 14 points, with 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block while Otto Porter Jr. finished with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Ty Lawson made his Wizards debut recording 14 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists.

CJ Miles hit 3 three-pointers in the second quarter, and scored 11 points. Meanwhile, DeRozan added 7 points as the Raptors broke their playoff record for points in a half, taking a 76-58 lead at halftime. Toronto led 100-90, to begin the fourth quarter, and Scott and Lawson’s back-to-back three-pointers, and Walls two free throws with more than seven minutes remaining, cut the deficit to 108-103. CJ Miles stopped Washington’s run with a long distance three-pointer and the Raptors continued to put the game away with a 17-4 run. Game 3 is on Friday night in Washington.
