With only a day left in the current transfer window, and with the dramatic deadline day transfer deals set to kick-off tomorrow, we take a look at some of the “top” deals that have been concluded in the past two weeks in the current summer transfer window.
August 16th, 2017
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Midfielder) - {Swansea – Everton} - Fee: £45m
A gifted playmaker, exceptional with both feet and with a prolific vision for goals. Moved from Swansea to Tottenham, didn’t seem to impress Manager Mauricio Pochettino, and returned to Swansea. A lot would be expected from the club record signing for Everton, whose fee eclipsed the previous record of £31.8m paid for Romelu Lukaku. With his experience in the premier league, he definitely won’t have a problem blending into to the Everton side, and proving how good a signing he is.

Gabriel Paulista (Defender) - {Arsenal – Valencia} - Fee: Undisclosed
Joined Arsenal from Villarreal with much prospects and hype around his potential. Couldn’t hold down a starting first-eleven position, and struggled to impress the Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger. A move for him back to a familiar La Liga with Valencia could prove beneficial to the 26-year-old Brazilian’s career, and boost his chances with the Brazilian national team ahead of next summer’s world cup.
Blaise Matuidi (Midfield) - {Paris St-Germain – Juventus} - Fee: £27.8m
A serial winner and a versatile midfield player. Exceptional with PSG in the 6 seasons he spent with the side. With his experience at the highest level for both club and country, he would be a great addition to a Juventus side that is making him their ninth signing in a busy summer transfer season. The Italian champions have paid a decent price for the 30-year-old, and are hoping he would cement himself in a midfield that boasts of already talented players.

Jose Izquierdo (Winger) - {Club Brugge – Brighton} - Fee: Undisclosed (reported £13.5m)
An exciting winger with pace and creativity. He is a 25-year-old, club record signing for Brighton who broken their transfer record for a third time this season to get the 2015/2016 Belgian Player of the year. He has been prolific in the Belgian Pro league and would add his goal-scoring ability to the newly promoted side, intent on adding quality to their side, to maintain their premier league status come to the end of the season.

Samir Nasri (Midfielder) - {Manchester City – Antalyaspor} - Fee rising to £3.2m
A brilliant and fantastic player-maker on his day. He arrived at Arsenal from Marseille and blossomed into a full midfield maestro. Left Arsenal to Manchester City in 2011 under Manuel Pellegrini, and performed brilliantly in his first three seasons, culminating in two league titles and one league cup. He fell down the pecking other under subsequent Manager, Pep Guardiola at the club, and evidently had no future under the Spaniard. His move to Turkey at 30 years of age can be viewed as a winding-down of a not-so eventful football career for the former French international.
Chris Wood (Striker) - {Leeds – Burnley} - Fee: Undisclosed (reported £15m)
A club record signing for Burnley, after smashing their previous transfer record of £13m paid for Robbie Brady in January. Chris Wood had a decent goal scoring record of 44 goals in 88 games for his former Leeds United side. He becomes Burnley’s sixth summer signing and would be hoping to repay the faith put in him by Manager Sean Dyche, by scoring goals to ensure the club’s safety in the Premier League.
August 23rd, 2017
Davinson Sanchez (Defender) - {Ajax – Tottenham} - Fee: Undisclosed
A club record signing for a Tottenham side that hasn’t done much in the current transfer window yet. The young defender who made 32 appearances for Ajax and played in the Europa league final against Manchester United last season, becomes only their second signing this summer. With the huge fee paid for him, Davinson would definitely be tasked with fortifying an already strong Tottenham back line, which conceded the least number of goals in the premier league last season.
August 24th, 2017
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Forward) – {Unattached - Manchester United}
Not a lot can be said again of the big man, called Zlatan, other than he is “amazing.” For a 35-year-old striker to join a different league and compete at the highest level, it is safe to say that he is nothing short of top quality. With 28 goals in 46 appearances for Manchester United last season, it was only right that they stuck by him during his time of injury and renew his contract, which they smartly did this summer. Every top team would want a proven goal scorer and a charismatic figure like Zlatan in their team. And United have done a smart one, by re-signing the player they got on a free transfer last summer, only to be blighted mid-way into the season by a career threatening injury deep. His rehabilitation seems to be on track, and we await the return of the legendary Zlatan on the field of play.

Ousmane Dembele (forward) – {Borussia Dortmund – Barcelona} - Fee: £96.8m (rising to £135.5m)
With an astonishing transfer fee involved in his move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona and an equally astonishing release clause of £369.6m, the 20-year-old becomes the second most expensive signing in football history. A brilliant forward with a lot of potential, Barcelona, and fans of the Catalan side would hope he replicates the form he displayed at Dortmund which made Barca prize the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 young player of the year away. At 20, he has impressive dribbling abilities and good records for assists and goals. He has a lot of footballing years ahead of him, but whether he would be a fitting replacement for the iconic Neymar Jr., only time would tell.
Siem de Jong (Midfielder) - {Newcastle – Ajax} - Fee: Reported £4m
A Dutch midfielder who has spent more time on the doctors’ table than on the field of play. He has struggled with injuries in recent times, including a collapsed lung. He joined Newcastle from Ajax in 2014, targeting a top-four finish for the side. The team was however relegated in his second season. He made just 26 appearances for the side and was mostly used as a substitute. Return to his former club Ajax may just be the right up-lift for his dwindling career.
How has your team fared in the current transfer window? And which of these players do you think would be spectacular this season? Drop your comments.
I still can't believe how much money were poured into this transfer window, especially for french players.
Given that France trashed Netherlands last night without Dembele as part of the team.
With all these prices, I can't even fathom how much would anyone pay for Griezmann to move, maybe this winter ?
Arsenal <3
With all the doom and gloom surrounding Arsenal it actually wasn't a bad transfer window. The winners this transfer window in my opinion were Man Utd, PSG, Swansea.
