The NFL Draft is next month and there is more anticipation for the Top 5 picks than ever before. Let’s take a look at each of the potential picks and look back at their college careers. Next we will dive into the career of the man from the Big 12. Baker Mayfield is a 6’1 and 220lb quarterback from the University of Oklahoma. He is the lone senior in this group and has the most experience.

Baker Mayfield started his college career at Texas Tech. He had hoped to play in the high powered “Air Raid” offense that was one of the most pass happy units in the country. It is a quarterback’s dream to play in such a system that puts up 60+ pass attempts per game. But after playing in just 8 games as a freshman, Mayfield was unhappy and transferred to Oklahoma.
He would have to sit out his sophomore year and redshirt before he could get his Sooner career rolling, and rolling it did. Mayfield’s redshirt sophomore year was dynamite. He would complete 68.1% of his passes for 3,700 yards and 36 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions. That was good enough for a Quarterback Rating of 173.3. His Junior year would be even better by completing 70.9% of his passes for 3,965 yards and 40 touchdowns with only 8 interceptions.

Baker Mayfield decided to come back to Oklahoma for his senior season. He was one of the most hyped up players in the country and the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, which he eventually would. Mayfield did not disappoint. His numbers got even better. Mayfield would throw for a career high in yards at 4,627 and touchdowns with 43. And even with all of those passes, only 6 of them would be picked off. He finished his senior season with an incredible Quarterback Rating of 198.9. Baker Mayfield finished his college career as one of the most accurate and statistically best quarterbacks in the history of college football.
So what does this mean for his NFL Draft potential? Allen, Rosen, and Darnold are all at least 6’4. Mayfield is undersized at 6’1. That seems to be the reason that he is likely to be the last QB picked out of this group. His accuracy and throwing style had been compared to Drew Brees. I think that he is a much better polished and NFL ready player than Darnold and Allen and should be the second QB off of the board, but I don’t think that will happen. I expect him to fall to the 4th or 5th overall pick.

Okky.....

Mayfield is the true "wildcard" of all of the top QB prospects in this year's draft. He def can make plays, and he is def a winner, as he had a highly successful career at Oklahoma. I know everyone talks about him being a little shorter, but I'm not concerned with that, I'm more concerned with his antics - that crap will only work at the next level if you're winning. That being said, he's accurate enough, and has a strong enough arm to be able to win at the next level. The other knock on him is "being a system QB" which I'm not sure about either. It will be very interesting to see where he lands.
