The Rockies host the Padres in MLB day action

The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies continue their series today when they face off in the thin air of the mountains. First pitch is at 2:10pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on Fox Sports San Diego. It will take place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. The Rockies are big favorites at -168 and the over/under is 10 runs.

The Colorado Rockies are coming off of an 8-0 beat down of the Padres on Tuesday. But although they are big favorites again today, they must be a little worried as they are sending Jon Gray to the mound and he has struggled big time for the Rockies so far this season. Gray is just 1-4 and has an ERA of 7.09 and a WHIP of 1.65. That could spell trouble for the home club. Colorado remains in the top 3 in the MLB in home runs and they may need to hit a few today to get Gray a W.

The San Diego Padres have one of the worst team batting averages in the league. But today might be their day to break out of their slump with Gray on the mound. The Padres will counter with Tyson Ross. Ross is off to a fantastic start to the season and is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.81. His WHIP is one of the best in the MLB at 1.01. Wil Myers is the only Padre starter today that is batting over .300 so the pressure will be on Ross to keep the high powered Rockies bats in check.

The outcome of this game is going to be decided by how effective each pitcher is. Gray and Ross seem to be headed in the opposite direction but we shall see how they both perform on a new day. The weather is beautiful today and it will be the perfect environment for some good baseball.
