Seattle’s Late Rally Earns Them a Victory

The Mariners have already won the three game series against the Rangers, and with a win on Sunday, they will have swept the Rangers. Meanwhile, the Rangers are desperately seeking a win, as they have lost 4 of their last 5. Texas is occupying the rock-bottom position in the AL West. On the other hand, the Mariners are third in the same division, 2.5 games short of occupying the first place position.

Both of the pitchers, Paxton from the Mariners, and Bartolo Colon from the Rangers, obtained no-decisions. Paxton struck out 6 batters through a 4 inning assignment. Colon made it through 5.2 innings, and marked up his ERA from 1.45 to 2.59, allowing 7 runs to cross the plate. Relief pitcher, Chasen Bradford, was honored as the winning pitcher, having pitched 2 innings, and allowing only one run to cross home. Alex Claudio gave up 4 runs, while not even getting one batter out, and that was just horrid enough to be handed the L.

Dee Gordon racked on three hits, one of which was a double, and the other two happened to be singles. Jean Segura drove in two runs courtesy to a double. Veteran Cano sent one to no-mans-land, and also hit two singles, finishing the night 3/5 with 2 RBI’s. Prior Ron Cano’s homerun, Nelson Cruz sent one that had no chance of returning, driving in Cano on the play. Mitch Haniger, in the same inning that Cano sent one deep, knocked one out of the park, as well. He accumulated their 9th and final point of the evening.

The Texas bats didn’t hit any homeruns, but they drove in 7 on the ground and in the air. If the game were to have ended in the 6th inning, the Rangers would have been skipping back on home with a victory tied to their chests. But, their pitcher had a horrible 7th inning performance, allowing the Mariners to take a 9-6 lead. Texas came up two runs short of tieing it in the 9th inning.

Shin-soo Choo hit a pair of doubles. Jurickson Profar went 2/5, cracking a double and a single, aggregating 2 RBI’s. Chirnos, Guzman, and Mazara, all cracked doubles, and those were all the extra-base hits the Rangers drove deep. These teams will conclude their series at 2:05 today, be on the lookout.
