Preview: New England Patriots vs Kansas City Chiefs

The NFL is back on Thursday night as the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs. The game kicks off at 8:30pm Eastern Standard Time and can be seen on national tv on NBC. Las Vegas has the current line at New England -8.5 and the over/under at 48 points.
Tom Brady is back and showing no signs of slowing down even though he has eclipsed the 40 year old mark. He appears to be in fantastic shape and ready for another championship run. The Patriots offense may be even more potent than last year. Although they lost Julian Edelman to injury, they have a healthy Gronk back. They also have 2 new weapons for Brady to throw to. Former Saint Brandin Cooks joins the Patriots as well as former first round pick Phillip Dorsett. Dorsett was just picked up in a trade with the Colts who landed Jacoby Brissett at quarterback since Andrew Luck is out.
The New England Defense lead the league in points allowed last year at 15.6 points per game. Their rush defense was 3rd in the league and their pass defense was 12th in the league. They will be tested by a good Kansas City offense. The Chiefs are one of the most disciplined offensive units in the league.
Alex Smith returns at quarterback for the Chiefs but for how long? They drafted a gun slinger out of Texas Tech in the first round, Patrick Mahomes. His arm strength is legendary as he can throw the ball 80 yards with ease. But he may stay on the bench in his first year and learn as much as he can about the Andy Reid offense.
The running game will be strong again for the Chiefs, even though Spencer Ware is injured. The added CJ Spiller to go along with Charcandrick West who will get the start. Kareem Hunt will be the number 2 back and could have a breakout year. Add in talented tight end Travis Kelce and Andy Reid has all the pieces he needs to play ball control offense against the Patriots.
What to expect on Thursday night? 2 well coached and pumped up teams will be ready to go. It should be a closer game than Las Vegas thinks. It could go all the way down to the wire as the Chiefs try to get their first win at New England in over a decade.

Not a fan of Brady but I respect his game. The champs start off with a win and the Chiefs fan will be chanting for Mahomes after a one week loss. I like Alex but I feel that the fans just want the young buck to take over sooner rather than later.

You don't have to be a fan of Tom Brady or the Patriots in order to recognize him as one of the best ever. To me he is the greatest quarterback to play the game. He's is 40 now and eventually after time will catch up to him. It does to everyone. It happened to Peyton Manning seemingly overnight. So the question is how long can Brady keep it up? Personally I'm not ready to count him out.
