Ali hits a century in 53 balls

Moeen Ali hit an astonishing century in just 53 balls to hand England the win and take a 2-0 lead with two more games to play in ODI series v West Indies.

It was a special innings from the England all-rounder in a high scoring encounter, which England prevailed by 124 runs. He was eventually dismissed for 102 from 57 balls. His innings was the second fastest ODI ton by an England player. The second half of his ton was completed in only 12 deliveries. Read that again: 50-100 in only 12 deliveries, and half of those delivies were sixes. Simply outstanding

England's innings didnt start too well. They lost the toss and were put into bat by the Windies. Losing Bairstow (13) and the Hayles (36). Then England ODI captain Eoin Morgan was out for a duck (0). Another dissapointing innings for Morgan, but how long can the ECB keep ignoring his failures?

So, at 74/3 it was looking like it was going to be Windies day.

Joe Root steadied the ship and helped England cruise to victory

Step forward Joe Root. His fine form kept going as he hit a brisk 84 from 79 balls. And with Ben Stokes hitting a fine 73 from 63 deliveries, it was beginning to look like England's day after all. When Moeen ALi stepped into the middle and delivered his man of the match performance, it gave England a lead that looked way beyond anything Windies could hope to catch.

Chris Gayle hit a quick fire 94 at Bristol in the 3rd ODI

The West Indies, spurred on by the returning Chris Gayle, threatened to chase down England's total. At 176/3 any outcome to the match was looking possible. Chris Gayle was in fine form and heading towards a century himself, but when he was run out on 94 runs and Windies on 174/4, it seemed just a matter of time before England skittled them all out.

England duly did with Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett getting their fair share of wickets, leaving the Windies on 245 all out from only 39.1 overs.

It was an excellent allround performance from a promising and young England team, but the day belonged to Moeen Ali. The allrounder has been impressive with bat and ball in all formats of the game, all year for England. He really is turning into one of England's most trusted players, and with the all important Ashes Series coming up in Australia this December, who would bet against some more dazzling displays from the man from Birmingham.

Sort:

England will deserve to be favorites for the ashes coming up considering how poor Australia are going right now.

I'm not so sure. Aussies are difficult to beat at home and now with it looking likely Ben Stokes won't be going, it could make it more difficult for us.

Great knock, Second fastest century by an English player.

Nice post my friend and resteem post you @ steemsports

He has been amazing for the last couple of years now. One of England's main players.

outstanding innings by Moeen Ali My Favorite Player... but today most chances of WI to win the match. Lewis played beautiful knock, i wished he could complete 200 but he retired hut

Being a Yorkshireman, I love Joe Root, haha. But Ali is one of my favourites. It was a great match to watch.
