The fairy tale run of the 21- year old Hyeon Chung, came to an end on Friday, as he retired hurt while player 19 times Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer.
The Korean, who has had a very fantastic run at this year’s Australian Open, notably became the first Korean to feature in the Semi-final of a Grand Slam. The youngster notably defeated Novak Djokovic, but couldn’t repeat a similar feat against the Swiss legend, Federer, who is yet to drop a set in this year’s Australian Open and has now made it to a record seventh Australian Open final.

Chung’s task on the day was made even tougher as he had to battle a rather fit and energetic Roger Federer, while struggling with a blister on his left foot. With Federer leading 6-1 5-2, Chung found it difficult to play, and despite taking a timeout to undergo some treatment on the affected foot, had to retire. A deserved cruise into the Australian Open final by the 36-year old Roger Federer pits the 19-time Grand Slam winner against Croatian Marin Cilic, who coincidentally was Federer’s losing opponent in the 2017 Wimbledon Final.

Marin Cilic who overcame Kyle Edmund would stand in the way of the ‘Old Roger’, as the Swiss hopes to claim a 20th Grand Slam and sixth Australian Open title on Sunday.
In a related news;
The women’s Singles final would see a match-up between Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday.

Simona Halep beat Angelique Kerber 6-3 4-6 9-7 to reach the final. While Caroline Wozniacki defeated Elise Mertens 6-3 7-6 (7-2) to make it to her first Australian Open final. Both ladies would be fighting for the chance to claim a first Grand Slam title in their respective careers.

Roger Federer is doing his best to cement his place as one of the greatest athlete of all time ,just 3 years ago, very few people were him off as being past his prime , to come back and win all those grand slams is amazing!

The old guys are tough.. Federer, Brady, LeBron James too if they hadn't ganged up to stack the deck. Rooting for Fed to get it done here.

Yea, same here. I like how you factored Brady and LeBron into the analogy @full-measure. And I agree with you. The Old Boys Gang seems to be rocking atm

yup! we just need Tiger Woods to get back in there

Grandpa Roger still f***ing dont think to stoped. Congratulations on 20th grand slam.

wow good news

Looks like Fed might not drop a set all tournament. Father Time has sure turned the clock back on Fed these past few years.

You are right @kryptocek. With age he has gotten even better. And his planning and management of tournament appearances has been awesome too. I also hope he does it against Cilic on sunday.

I’m sure he will, might not be as easy as last time they played but he should get it done!

taking nothing away from the fed, he's had a dream run playing all games at night. but then to criticise those who played in the extreme heat as "soft" blotted his copybook somewhat. if it turns out, he will be a chequered champion.
