NIT Quarterfinal Preview: Utah vs St. Mary's

The Utah Utes and the Saint Mary’s Gaels face off tonight in a quarterfinal game in the 2018 NIT Tournament. The game tips off at 9pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on ESPN2. It will be played at the McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, California. St. Mary’s is favored by 6.5 points and the over/under is 140 points.

Utah is entering tonight after a blowout win against the LSU Tigers on Monday night, 95-71. They played one of their best games of the year and destroyed them right out of the gate. They were up by 19 points after the first quarter and never looked back. Sedrick Barefield led the way with 17 points and made 3-7 from down town. They will not be able to get any where near the 90 point mark tonight though against an excellent defensive team.

St. Mary’s beat the Washington Huskies on Monday night, 85-81. Sophomore guard Jordan Ford had a dynamite game and led the way with 26 points. His back court partner, Emmett Naar, added 12 big assists and they were simply too much for Washington to slow down. St. Mary’s is not normally known for winning high scoring shootouts though.

Tonight’s game will not be as fast paced as both teams played on Monday. The Gaels will be able to control the pace much better against Utah and will try and frustrate them on the offensive end. I like the Gaels to get the W and advance to the NIT Final 4.
