The 2018 NFL Draft is almost here and we want to take a look at some of the best players that will be hearing their names called in the first rounds. Today we want to focus on the Tight End position. Next, let’s take a look at Mark Andrews from the University of Oklahoma. Andrews is a junior and is entering the draft one year early.

Mark Andrews was a highly recruited Wide Receiver and enjoyed enormous success in high school in Arizona. But Oklahoma Sooner head coach, Bob Stoops, saw Andrews as a Tight End and not a Wide Receiver. Andrews would redshirt his freshman year and work extremely hard in the weight room to put on muscle for the more physical position.
He would hit the field in 2015 and saw playing time in every game. Andrews caught 19 passes in his first year for 318 yards and would score 7 touchdowns. His sophomore year was even better and he had 31 catches for 489 yards. He would again get into the end zone 7 times.

Andrews numbers exploded last year. He was one of quarterback Baker Mayfield’s favorite targets and caught 62 passes. He fell just shy of crossing the 1,000 yard receiving mark and had 8 touchdowns. At 6’5 and 245 pounds, he was an easy target for Mayfield to hit.
If there is one knock on Andrews game, it is his blocking. This will not be his strong suit and which ever team drafts him, will need to have a second Tight End on their roster that can focus more on blocking. But Andrews will still be a dynamite offensive weapon and will fit in good with a team that likes to throw the ball deep and stretch the field.
