The 2018 NFL Draft is almost here and we want to take a look at some of the best players that will be hearing their names called in the first rounds. Today we want to focus on the Defensive End position. Next, let’s take a look at the junior from Ohio State University, Sam Hubbard. The 6’5 and 265 pound player is leaving school a year early to take his shot at the NFL.
Sam Hubbard was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of the most recruited players in the country after an outstanding high school career. But he didn’t only excel on the football field. Hubbard was an all-state lacrosse player. He was just as heavily recruited in that sport and he even had thought about going to Notre Dame to play lacrosse instead of football. But cooler heads prevailed and he chased his dream to line up for the Buckeyes on Saturdays.
He would redshirt his first year on campus and work on adding some size to his frame. He would take the field in 2015 and would play in every game. Hubbard would record 28 tackles and have 6.5 sacks. His sophomore year was pretty similar. He recorded a career high 7 sacks and 42 tackles his junior year and that was impressive enough to get a lot of attention from NFL scouts. Hubbard would declare for the draft and hit the NFL combine. He was eager to prove to the world that he is worthy of a first round pick.
Sam Hubbard will definitely hear his named called during the NFL Draft, but will it be in the first round? That is the question.
