NBA Game of the Night: San Antonio Spurs at Houston Rockets

There is a full slate of action in the NBA tonight but there is only one Game of the Night! The 19-9 San Antonio Spurs play at the 22-4 Houston Rockets tonight. The game tips off at 8:30pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on ESPN. The Rockets are favored by 8 points and the over/under is 213.5.
The Spurs got great news when their best player Kawhi Leonard got his season started on Tuesday. He had been out all year with a shoulder injury. Leonard was on a minutes restriction and only played 15 minutes but looked good and had 13 points on 6-12 shooting. He has had a few days since to rest but will still not be playing full time tonight. The Spurs always look at the big picture and that is to win an NBA title. They are the most proactive team in the league when it comes to letting players heal and getting them rest whenever possible during this 82 game grind.
The Rockets enter tonight’s game with the best record in the NBA and on fire. They have won 11 games in a row and James Harden is playing at an MVP level. They also recently got good news when guard Chris Paul came back from his injury. Paul has been fantastic since his return and had an incredible game this week against the Charlotte Bobcats. Paul had 31 points including 5-9 from the 3 point line and added 11 assists. 6th man Eric Gordon has embraced his role and is second on the team in scoring with 18.9 points per game.
What should we expect tonight? The Spurs have won the last 3 in this series. But with Leonard only playing about 20 minutes, it will be a touch road for San Antonio. If completely healthy, Leonard would be the key defender to try and slow down Harden. But it is unlikely that he will get that task tonight. The Rockets have scored 100 points or more in 19 straight games and tonight should be no different. Will the Spurs be able to keep up with the fast paced offense of the Rockets? That will be the main question.
