MLB Preview: Cardinals vs the Cubs

The St. Louis Cardinals host their bitter rival, the Chicago Cubs, in Saturday MLB action. First pitch is scheduled for 1:15pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on WLS and Fox Sports Midwest. It will take place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Cardinals are favorites at -127 and the over/under is 8 runs.

The Cardinals are coming off of a 3-2 win over the Cubs on Friday night. Miles Mikolas pitched a fantastic game and the Cubs were held scoreless until the 9th inning. Tommy Pham ripped a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning off of Cubs starter Jose Quintana that would be the difference in the game.

Today, the Cardinals will send Luke Weaver to the mound to try and keep the Cubs offense in check. Weaver is off to a bumpy start though this year and has an ERA of 5.17. That could spell trouble for St. Louis today.

The Cubs continue to be inconsistent from the plate. Their bats are yet to really warm up and Anthony Rizzo is batting a terrible .174. As a team, there is no one batting over .290 and that is a big concern. The Cubs will give the ball to Tyler Chatwood today. He has pitched great so far since joining the Cubs rotation and has an ERA of 2.83. But he has barely gotten any run support and is only 2-3 on the year.

The weather will be nice today in St. Louis and I expect there to be some fireworks from the plate. The over/under only being at 8 is surprising and I think the total will go past that.
