The Chicago Cubs may have gotten their secret weapon back this year, slugger Kyle Schwarber. He hit two home runs tonight against the Cleveland Indians in the very ballpark that the Cubs won the 2016 World Series. But it has been a tough couple years for the Schwarb. Is this a sign of the future or just a flash in the pan?

Kyle Schwarber burst onto the scene as a rookie back in 2015. He showed immediate power and had Cubs fans drooling over his prospects. Schwarber would play in 69 games in his first year and rip 16 home runs. He would also have an on base % of .355 and a slugging % of .487. It was clear that he had some big time potential. But the question remained, where do you play him?

The Schwarbs is a big boy and he played catcher in the Minor Leagues but his physique is not built for that long term. So the Cubs tried to put him in the outfield and it was a bumpy start to say the least. He would struggle big time defensively and have a hard time fielding balls. But his bat was so good, the Cubs wanted to make it work.

Kyle Schwarber missed his sophomore season due to injury but made it back to the postseason and had some huge hits that contributed to the Cubs first World Series win in over 100 years.

2017 would be a disaster for the slugger and he only batted .211. He would hit 30 home runs but was very unreliable from the plate.

So here we are in 2018. The Cubs are 11-9 on the season and Schwarber is off to his best start ever. He is batting .302 and is in the best shape of his life. He dropped over 20lbs in the off season and has drastically changed his physique.

It can definitely be a historic season for Kyle Schwarber and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
