Golovkin vs. Matirosyan: A Consequence of Canelo's Misfortune

The results of Canelo Alvarez testing positive on both of his drug tests have left both him and Gennady Golovkin without fights... well at least until today. Triple G will now use the biggest day on the biggest platform in boxing to fight a somewhat worn, and out of shape fighter.
The inactive Vanes Matriosyan, who is coming off a loss to Erislandy Lara a couple years back, will be making his return to the biggest fight of his life. Vanes is making a most unexpected appearance on what should have been the biggest rematch in boxing's modern era.
Canelo must take 90 percent of the blame within this scenario, but Golovkin must also take blame in not taking a tougher test.. at least for the fans. Matirosyan will not become the breakout star boxing had planned for him all those years ago... instead he will become a victim of circumstance.
This bout is an absolute mismatch, and honestly I am a bit stricken with concern about Golovkin's willingness to accept the easiest opponent available. We could have seen a guy like Andrade and Charlo step up as they are conditioned for a fight... but Golovkin doesn't seem to want anything like that.
In fact it seems that Golovkin may already be piecing his retirement together with a last string of contract fights, and since Canelo most likely won't be available for a couple of years in the least, we may never have a fulfilled end result to the end of this (could be) grudge match.
Who knows if we will ever get the rematch, or if the rematch would have even lived up to the hopes and expectations worldwide. It is a shame that both cheating and skill regression are taking such stake in such a beautiful affair within the boxing... here is hoping to a good fight on Cinco de Mayo!

I don't blame GGG for taking Vanes as a rival, He's getting older and in the end like he says "this is boxing" I don't think he is avoiding anyone on the contrary poor GGG has been avoided for most of his career.
