FIFA World Rankings: Peru and Spain Joined the Top Ten.

Peru has climbed into the top 10 of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking for the first time. The Peruvians, who qualified for an Intercontinental play-off against New Zealand, were joined in the top 10 by former number one, Spain, which climbed from 11th to 8th spot on the back of an impressive conclusion to their unbeaten qualifying campaign.
It is a good time for many European nations, with Germany holding on to the top spot and France up one place to the 7th. England came up by 3 to the 12th. Scotland by 14 up to the 29th and Austria up a whopping 18 places to the 39th.
The Austrians are one of the four new entries to the top 50, where they are joined by the Czech Republic (up 12 to the 46th), Morocco (up 8 to the 48th) and World Cup qualifying sensation Panama (up 11 to the 49th). This leaves 28 European teams in the top 50, which is one better than the last rankings. This, however, is at the expense of the CONMEBOL, which dropped down to eight.

In Africa, Nigeria moved up to the 41st position in the world and retained fifth in Africa. Tunisia becomes the new number one in Africa and the 28th in the world while Egypt. former number one in Africa, dropped to the second place and the 30th in the world. Senegal and DR Congo make up the top five.
Elsewhere, Singapore slumped to its lowest ranking ever to the 173rd position.
England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland all rose in the rankings. The Three Lions, who qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia with wins over Slovenia and Lithuania. The Republic of Ireland improved by eight places, while Scotland climbed 14 places to the 29th despite missing out on a place in Russia 2018.

As a result of the latest ranking, Pot 1 for the Russia 2018 draw on the 1st of December has been decided. Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Poland and France make up the top-seeded teams.
