The Chicago Cubs were 5.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers at the All-Star Break. The team that won their first World Series in over 100 years looked as if all the magic was suddenly gone. But the hope on the Northside of Chicago is back and the Cubs can put away the Brewers for good this weekend.
The Cubs and Brewers will start a 3 game series at Wrigley Field tonight. Milwaukee is 5 games back of the first place Cubbies after being swept this week by the last place Cincinnati Reds. If the Brewers have any shot at winning the National League Central, then they need to have a big weekend in the Windy City. But if the Cubs can keep playing good ball and sweep the series, then the Brewers season would be over. That would leave them 8 games back of the first place Cubs and a very small shot at hunting down a wild card spot.

Tonight the Cubs will start right handed pitcher John Lackey. Lackey has had a bumpy season so far and has been very inconsistent. He is 11-10 with an ERA of 4.74. If the Cubs do make the playoffs, Lackey is sure to be moved to the bullpen. He is most likely in his final year in a Cubs uniform and possibly done all together after a nice career. He has inched closer to 40 years old and he just doesn't have the control and velocity that he had a few years back.

The Brewers will send pitcher Jimmy Nelson to the mound. Nelson is having a great year for Milwaukee. He is 11-6 and has a fantastic ERA of 3.56. This has been one of his best statistical seasons and he will need to pitch lights out to a loaded Cubs lineup.
Anthony Rizzo is having a great second half of the season. He can definitely make a case in the MVP race. He is up to 31 home runs and it batting .280 after a slow start. Kris Bryant, last year's MVP, is having a solid season and is batting .288 with 25 homeruns. The Cubs in total have 6 players with over 20 home runs.

The Brewers have plenty of pop on offense as well. They have the 8th most amount of home runs in the league. Thames and Shaw both have 28 home runs and will be excited to bat at Wrigley Field. If the wind is blowing out on any of the next 3 days, it could be bombs away.
The game tonight is at 7pm in Chicago. The Cubs are -120 and the over/under is 8.
