The ACC Championship Game is sure to be a good one when the 12th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels face off against the number one team in the country, the Virginia Cavaliers. The game tips off at 7:30pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on ESPN. The game is being played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Virginia is favored by 3.5 points and the over/under is 125.5 points.
The Virginia Cavaliers have spent the better half of the season in the top 5 including several weeks in the number one spot. Head coach Tony Bennett is the best defensive coach in the country and this years team may be the best defensive team in the history of college basketball. They smother teams in impressive fashion and make them grind out every single possession. On offense, Kyle Guy is leading the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Devon Hall is second with 11.9 points per game and Ty Jerome is the third starter in double figures with 10.5 points per game.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are coming off of an impressive win over their bitter rival, the Duke Blue Devils. They won in dramatic fashion 74-69 on Friday night and now are looking for yet another ACC Tournament Championship. It has been an up and down year for their leading scorer Joel Berry II. His season started on the bench as he had a broken hand and his shooting touch has been slightly off ever since. It is imperative that he connects from down town against this tough Virginia defense tonight. Junior Luke Maye will also need to be extremely active on the offensive end. This will be a particularly difficult match-up for Maye who is not the most athletically gifted player for the Tar Heels.
Virginia likely already has a number 1 seed locked up. But North Carolina could possibly get up to a 1 seed with a big victory today. These two teams play a completely different style of basketball and it will be a testament of their wills tonight.
