The 3rd ranked college basketball team, the Michigan State Spartans, answered the bell tonight and put a beatdown on the previously undefeated and 5th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Tonight’s action was the final game of the ACC vs Big 10 Challenge. The ACC dominated the Big 10 this year but the Spartans looked like a National Champion caliber team tonight to end things well for the Big 10.

This game was a blowout right out of the gate. The Spartans dominated in ever facet of the game in the first half. They would build an impressive 20 point half time lead at 46-26. Sophomore guard Cassius Winston was on fire and made 5/6 shots from the 3 point line. He would end up with 17 points. Joshua Langford would also hit the 17 point mark and Mile Bridges would add 14.

It was not a bad shooting night for the Irish. They hit 8 of 18 from the 3 point line and shot 44.4% overall from the field. But they were absolutely dominated on the board. The Spartans had 42 rebounds to the Irish’s 21. That is where the battle was won. Colson and Farrell played ok but their lack of success in the paint was the difference.

Next up for the Spartans will be their conference opener in a home game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday. The Irish will play a few inferior opponents like St. Francis, Ball State, and Delaware over their next few games. These teams can likely meet come March and on a neutral floor, anything is possible.
