Anthony Joshua gets a new opponent for the October 28th fight in Cardiff

in #steemsports7 years ago

Hello steemians,
I once made a post here on the next bout for the heavy weight champion Antony Joshua. But as it is, that contender has changed as Cubrat Pulev picked up an injury from training about 3 days ago.

In a reported post here, Pulev who has a record of 26 fights with 25 wins (13 knockouts) and 1 loss to AJ's last opponent explained the circumstances surrounding his pull out.In his qouted statements below, he said;

"It wasn't easy for me to make that decision,"
”I know, in my place, almost everyone would choose to get into the ring in Cardiff, despite everything, and collect a few million.
“Anyone else, but not me!
"In my life and in my world, it's not all money.
“I’ve learned that a man goes into battle to win it.
“I understand that despite the turns of life, a man should not cheat on his beliefs.
"I can beat Joshua ... but I can't beat him if I'm injured.”

For the obvious reasons, AJ has gotten another opponent for the October 28th fight. In the IBF's arrangements, there is usually a next in line challenger who should be prepared in case of emergencies. This is the case with Carlos Tarka who had stared preparations even since the announcement of the match at the 80,000 capacity stadium in Cardiff. It was even claimed here that he was excited at the news of him meeting AJ as reported below:

Takam had been on standby for the fight and is said to be overjoyed to be facing Joshua.
And Sky Sports boxing expert Adam Smith thinks the pressure is all on Joshua now.
He said: “Takam will still be a big underdog against Anthony Joshua but he’s got no pressure.
“He’s fighting fit, he’s been training for weeks, he’s ready to go.
“So all the pressure moves onto Anthony Joshua’s big shoulders.”

Takam is a 36 year old Camerounian-French boxer with a record of 39 fights. Of this, he has 35 wins (27 by knockouts) , 3 losses, 1 draw– 35 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw doesn't totally look like a walk over for his heavyweight opponents as he is a former WBC Silver heavyweight champion. In fact, some boxing pundits are looking at the match going in the direction AJ's bout went when he met Dillian Whyte.A fight which AJ's opponent showed some strengths in the beginning and took the fight to rounds AJ has not been to before in his professional career, but was taken down in the 7th round eventually, making it the longest AJ had gone before the Klitchko fight.

Now that we have a fight that Takam has been hoping for and a quick change of plan and strategy for the AJ team, what are your thoughts on this bout?
